MASON CITY – Mason City police caught a man with a loaded handgun after a domestic call in Mason City this weekend.
On the evening of Saturday, July 28, Mason City police responded to a domestic incident in the vicinity of the 800 block of 4th Street SW. As a result of the police response, officers located Marcus Jamal Hughes, age 24, “as he was walking away” from the incident, Chief of Police Jeff Brinkley told NIT this morning. Located on Hughes, allegedly, was a loaded 9mm handgun (pictured below).
“No one was injured in the arrest,” Chief Brinkley explained.
Another officer said, “officers took this loaded 9mm off the street. The person carrying it was charged with carrying weapons. Good work by the officers to recognize the potential for danger and resolve this incident safely.”
Hughes was taken to the Cerro Gordo county jail, charged with carrying weapons, possession of drug paraphernalia, second-offense possession of marijuana, interference with official acts, forgery, and false identification. He remains there at this time, awaiting a court date.
