MASON CITY – The search for a new Mason City Fire Chief will have to resume after Jon Anderson withdrew from consideration.
According to Mason City Administrator Aaron Burnett, “Jon Anderson has elected to withdraw his name from consideration for the Fire Chief position. While I am disappointed, I respect Mr. Anderson’s decision. Unfortunately, this creates a difficult situation with the impending retirement of Interim Chief Janssen. City staff is working quickly to address the situation and review the city’s options. The civil service commission is most likely going to reconvene to establish a new list of potential candidates for the Fire Chief position.”
Mr. Anderson’s statement is below:
I have loved serving the citizens of Mason City for 21 years. I want to continue serving as a fire captain which is what I am prepared for and confident in.
The city administrator and city staff have been understanding of my situation and I feel badly for letting them down from my commitment.
Going forward, prospective chief candidates should know there is a great support system waiting for you at city hall, a positive political environment to work in, and a tremendous group of firefighters to work with.
Sincerely, Jon Anderson
