SIOUX CITY – A Mexican illegal alien who was caught drunk driving in Spirit Lake, Iowa has been sentenced to time served.
A man who entered the United States illegally from Mexico was sentenced on July 12, 2018, to time served.
Jesus Gonzalez-Olivas, age 25, from Mexico, received the prison term after a May 10, 2018, guilty plea to one count of illegal re-entry.
At the guilty plea, Gonzalez-Olivas admitted had illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico after he had been previously removed on May 27, 2015. On March 23, 2018, he was arrested in Spirit Lake, Iowa, for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Gonzalez-Olivas was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand. Gonzalez-Olivas was sentenced to time served. He must also serve a 1-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE ERO).
