MASON CITY – Twenty-five nonprofit organizations are receiving community grants totaling $35,000 from the Alliant Energy Foundation this spring, including some in Mason City, Clear Lake and surrounding areas.
“These organizations do such valuable work that makes our communities stronger,” said Julie Bauer, executive director of the Alliant Energy Foundation. “Our investments support their crucial activities in the areas of helping families, education and the environment.”
Another round of giving will take place in the fall.
Spring grant recipients include:
· Iowa State University Foundation, Ames – $5,000 for Iowa State Women in Science and Engineering
· Clear Lake Community School District, Clear Lake – $2,500 for STEM/PLTW launch
· Marshall Economic Development Impact Committee, Marshalltown – $2,500 for enhancements at Grimes Farm
· Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA, Marshalltown – $2,000 for Y Day Camp and STEM For All
· North Iowa Area Community College Foundation, Mason City – $2,000 for NIACC and Next Generation Science Standards: What’s Next in Science for North Iowa
· Buena Vista University, Storm Lake – $1,500 for BV Buddies
· Carroll County Council for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Carroll – $1,500 for expansion of Crisis and Respite Support Services to special needs families
· Heart of Iowa Big Brothers Big Sisters, Marshalltown – $1,500 for Mentoring Matters!
· Iowa Lakes Corridor Initiative, Spencer – $1,500 for Spirit Lake Robotics/FIRST Robotics competition team #5576
· Raising Readers in Story County, Ames – $1,500 for Leveled Readers for Literacy programs
Also receiving grants are: Iowa Railroad Historical Society, Boone; Camp Fire Heart of Iowa, Des Moines; West Hancock Community Schools, Britt; Casey Library Betterment Association, Casey; City of Gruver, Gruver; Lone Rock Community Club, Lone Rock; Iowa Valley Community College District, Marshalltown; Child Abuse Prevention Services, Inc., Marshalltown; Newman Catholic School, Mason City; Town of Scarville, Scarville; Sibley STEM Program, Sibley; Cherish Center, Milford; Spirit Lake Public Library, Spirit Lake; Steamboat Rock Visionary Group, Steamboat Rock; Friends of the Storm Lake Public Library, Storm Lake.
These grants are among 188 the Foundation awarded this grant cycle, totaling over $465,000.

Public relations tactic to sew goodwill – as the rates hike up. Many times, when you see a company do this, it is a gimmick so they can say “look how we help those less fortunate” while they reach deeper into your pocket. There’s a local bank that does this, too.
