Hit sitcom “Roseanne” cancelled after racist Twitter post; star blames Ambien

LOS ANGELES – ABC TV has confirmed that the hit sitcom “Roseanne” has been canceled, leading the star of the show to blame a drug for a racist Twitter post that doomed the show.

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC TV said in a statement.

Rosanne Barr, who plays the main character Roseanne on the show, tweeted days ago, “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” apparently in reference to Valerie Jarrett, who is African-American.

As the firestorm swelled and chants of racism spread like wildfire over the Internet, Roseanne tweeted, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.”

Sarah Gilbert, a long-time actress on the show that plays Roseann’s daughter, said, “Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least.”

Rosanne claimed she was “leaving Twitter” but appeared to be going strong after that proclamation.

Roseanne also blamed a drug for her outburst, saying, “It was 2 in the morning and i was ambien tweeting – it was memorial day.”
