ANAMOSA, IOWA- Today, the Anamosa State Penitentiary (ASP) was placed on restricted movement following an incident that occurred in the main yard of the institution. At approximately 7:44 a.m., several inmates engaged in a physical confrontation. That initial confrontation escalated to a physical altercation between approximately 22 inmates.
Staff immediately responded to the incident, and took control of the situation. In addition to the correctional officers that responded, multiple staff from other areas of the facility responded, supporting the officers in taking control of the incident. The incident was resolved quickly thanks to the quick work of the staff.
The entire incident lasted 73 seconds. No staff were injured and inmates that were involved reported no serious injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
