MASON CITY – Mason City voters on Tuesday extended two taxes on property owners for 10 years to support school district.
Voters approved both taxes on the ballot overwhelmingly by no less than 77%, according to unofficial results.
The Instructional Support Levy (ISL) grows the school district’s general fund, to be spent on services for students and to expand existing programs.
The Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) will collect funds to repair buildings and buy equipment.
These two taxes were last approved by voters in 2013 and were set to expire this year. Now, they are both good for the next 10 years.
No matter how much money you give these fools it will never be enough… It is just my earnest hope and desire they continue to spend like drunken sailors, until finally the well goes dry… It will be just a gas to watch, layoffs, cutbacks, and god willing death to IPERS!!!
The school board colluded with the Russians it win !
This is exactly why we are putting our house up for sale and moving out. The voters of Mason City, 93% don’t give a shit so it’s time for me to move where people care. I am sick of paying for all the negative rah rah rah bull crap that goes on here. The folks in the cheap seats get nothing and the elites line there pockets.
We have nothing to show for all the taxes we pay!
The other 93% are public employees. Case closed.
So you are saying 93% of the registered voters in Mason City are public employees?
77% seems to be an overwhelming victory. The vast majority of the voters said yes.The problem seems to be only 7% care enough to vote. Are both sides not showing up or just the the no votes not showing up to vote?.
Would the vote be the same if more people cared to vote?
Citizens of Mason City are so checked-out of the process it is scary. Bookmeyer ran folks out of the council meetings with intimidation (police threats) and had Skipper to smooth out all the bad decisions. The school district used secrecy and the Globe to lull everyone to sleep with no information or stories that propped up anything the district did. Now we have voters who are mis-informed, un-informed or just don’t care anymore. This atmosphere has created an oligarchy in Mason City, where the town is actually controlled by the Chamber of Commerce and a few of the big shot business owners. These few lean on the council and mayor to get what they want. When you have elected officials who think not for themselves or their constituents but rather, do things to placate or please the oligarchy, you get a town on the brink. This is why millions continue to be spent downtown (Robin’s un-needed $1+ million music pavilion, for example) while the streets, sidewalks, alleys, neighborhoods rot with crumbling vacant houses everywhere. Wake up people and take your town back.
Let it go Matt. Rid yourself of all those past demons. Say goodbye to Robin as well. You keep tooting the same horn and the people continue to disregard you. Run for Council again you looser.
I tried to let go of Robin, but she grabbed my arm, which is assault, see Iowa code 708.1. She should have been arrested but this town plays favorites and the system is rigged. First she grabbed me then tried to drag me into a private room to scold me, and who knows what else – I felt quite violated. She’s a very aggressive, frustrated old lady who wants her name on a plaque downtown as a memorial.
I have said that for years but no one wants to listen.
I have to agree Matt, all the waste fraud and abuse of our taxpayers money by this school system seems to be unknown by the people of mason city. This is sad and sickening at the same time.
This will be great. Now we will know for sure, that there will be enough funds for our trusted administrators and elected people to steal freely.
Well you yes voters thanks for the raise, we administrators at MCCS thank you all so much. You will not see our special pay listed in the globe but trust me it will be on our checks. Thanks for the nice vacation and new car I intend to buy with it. Sorry for our students but as usual they will get by.
They give themselves and each other raises, that much is documented, and I hear the DCI looked into the last group of Admin’s in the MCCSD. Orange jumpsuits will look great on some of these thieves. Seems like the new Admin is straight-up guy trying to do right thing, but these taxes are unnecessary. Now that they got our $, let’s see how they spend it. I’ll be watching.
great news for people who do not own property or make enough to pay state income tax!Their kids benefit the most.
1300 voters ? How many public servants (which includes teachers) are there in cerro gordo county – friends -children – relatives – oh well 2 levies and a raise in your property assessment should serve you right – makes no difference to public servants because their 5% yearly salary increase will more than cover it – be nice if the private sector could demand a 5% raise every year – falling way behind on income compared to the public fat cats.
guess its staying with hamburger instead of steak. of the last 5 yrs of this tax wish they would have published how much of the money went to salaries and payoffs, bet the vote would have been much closer then
