Mason City voters extend two taxes on property owners to support school district

MASON CITY – Mason City voters on Tuesday extended two taxes on property owners for 10 years to support school district.

Voters approved both taxes on the ballot overwhelmingly by no less than 77%, according to unofficial results.

The Instructional Support Levy (ISL) grows the school district’s general fund, to be spent on services for students and to expand existing programs.

The Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) will collect funds to repair buildings and buy equipment.

These two taxes were last approved by voters in 2013 and were set to expire this year. Now, they are both good for the next 10 years.
