Mason City woman escapes felony drunk driving conviction after over $4,000 in court costs

MASON CITY – A Mason City woman charged with felony drunk driving after an arrest last October successfully pled down to a lesser charge after well over $4,000 in court costs.

A Cerro Gordo county deputy stopped a speeding vehicle on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at about 12:36 AM near Lark Avenue and 265th Street. The driver of the allegedly speeding vehicle was 35-year-old Christina Maria Turner. After an investigation, Turner was arrested for felony third-offense operating while intoxicated and speeding 16-20 miles over the limit. She was jailed and soon released, pending a court date.

After months of court proceedings, Turner finally agreed to plead guilty to a reduced charge of second-offense operating while intoxicated. She lost her driver’s license, was sentenced to 7 days in jail, and must pay $7,308.97 to Iowa courts, which includes $4,767.72 in court costs and a $1,875.00 fine.

Turner faces a jury trial in April for the speeding ticket.
