NRA losing corporate supporters in wake of latest school shooting

Gun laws are under scrutiny, as is the influence of the NRA.

FAIRFAX, VA — The National Rifle Association is facing serious backlash from segments of the country after the latest horrific school shooting, and now some of its corporate parters and supporters are fleeing from the gun lobbying group.

In the last few days, the list of companies ending their partnership with the NRA has grown as fallout from the Parkland school shooting in Florida takes shape. Students, young people and many others who support gun law reform are making their voices heard through marches and media appearances, and some companies with connections to the NRA are taking action.

Some of the companies leaving the NRA are: Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Hertz, Enterprise, Alamo, National, MetLife, Avis, Budget, Best Western, First National Bank of Omaha, TrueCar and others. Pressure was being exerted on bigger names such as Google, Apple and Amazon to follow suit.  A major push on social media to encourage NRA members to drop their memberships is also underway.

The NRA responded to the situation. In a statement, the NRA said:

“The more than five million law-abiding members of the National Rifle Association have enjoyed discounts and cost-saving programs from many American corporations that have partnered with the NRA to expand member benefits.

“Since the tragedy in Parkland, Florida, a number of companies have decided to sever their relationship with the NRA, in an effort to punish our members who are doctors, farmers, law enforcement officers, fire fighters, nurses, shop owners and school teachers that live in every American community. We are men and women who represent every American ethnic group, every one of the world’s religions and every form of political commitment.

“The law-abiding members of the NRA had nothing at all to do with the failure of that school’s security preparedness, the failure of America’s mental health system, the failure of the National Instant Check System or the cruel failures of both federal and local law enforcement.

“Despite that, some corporations have decided to punish NRA membership in a shameful display of political and civic cowardice. In time, these brands will be replaced by others who recognize that patriotism and determined commitment to Constitutional freedoms are characteristics of a marketplace they very much want to serve.

“Let it be absolutely clear. The loss of a discount will neither scare nor distract one single NRA member from our mission to stand and defend the individual freedoms that have always made America the greatest nation in the world.”

B there or B square.

Give up your guns or well will take them ! WE the government and your local law enforcement representatives will PROTECT YOU – signed ANGELA MERKEL ! Chairperson to democratic party of the European Union.

Just reported in Florida – Sat. feb 24 2018 Largest attendence and gun sales ever at local gun show- guess your little deep state farce backfired again – NRA member will now go somewhere else to spend their hard earned money – snowflakes don’t deserve it and are Anti American anyway. PS – Ohio sheriffs dept offered free gun training classed to teachers (50) Had 300 teachers apply – screw you demorats trolling on this website.

Wanting to possess high mag assault rifles with bump stocks makes you more American than someone who is sick of seeing dead kids in the news every 6 weeks? How about you take one of those guns and eat a bullet? Seems like the most American way to go out in your eyes.

HATER

LOL – a deeply thought out and exceptionally brutal comeback I’ve come to expect on NIT. You be a patriot and eat a bullet too, ok?

As was your comment.

“Teachers will not be able to bring guns into their classrooms once they complete the training. Under Ohio’s concealed carry law, school employees must leave their guns in their locked car when they are in a school.”

The whole story dumbass.
So once the shooting starts, the teachers are going to run out to their cars, unlock the and get their guns.
Ya, that will work (sarcasm).
You’re such a freakin idiot.

And your a hater, your parents must be very proud of you. But I can’t figure out why they let you out of the basement.

Priceless, considering that you do not know the difference between “Your” and “You’re”.
You must be related to the stupid old coot.

Thanks for the grammar lesson, but you still understood it. And, it’s really immaterial to the post. As for your other statement, we could be related, same species I’m sure, of which (you are) not. You must be related to bodacious.

Yes Hey-suse, I understood your inane comment completely.
After being on this site for awhile, I have developed the ability to translate asnine & poor grammmar comments from numbnuts like you.
And if you are of the same species as the stupid old coot, congratulations on being a dumbass.

Now a common sense person would figure that if teachers go to a gun training class that is put on by the Ohio sheriffs dept., and they pass the class, Ohio’s concealed carry law will be changed, and they will be able to carry in the classroom. Common sense now, don’t you think. Probably not.

Common sense would tell you to do a little research and that the the Sheriffs dept is in Butler County only in Ohio.
Butler County is only 1 of 88 counties in Ohio and contains only 3% of Ohio total population.
Any change to the Ohio Concealed Carry law would need to be done at the state level.
Does your “common sense” tell you that is going to happen?
You need to think before you comment (although for you that is very difficult).
Although I realize that critical thinking skills are not in your repetoire of abilities or skills.
You’re just a simple-minded fellow Allen, stick to things more suited to you intellectual level…like bingo.

Priceless, considering that (you), do not know the difference between “You” and “Your”, and “asnine” and “asinine”, or “grammmar” and “grammar”. Talk about knee jerk reactions, you have to be the biggest one on this site. And just think, you have developed the ability to translate poor grammar comments from this site. How’s that going.

We’ll see.

Priceless, considering that you do not know the difference between “You” and “Your”, “Asnine” and “Asinine” or “Grammmar” and “Grammar”. When you talk about knee jerk reaction, you have to be the biggest one on this site. And just think, you say that you have developed the ability to translate poor grammar on this site. So how’s that working out for you. And a big thank you to NIT, for trying to help assnonymous with his grammar.

The NRA is a terrorist organization that accepted Russian cash to help fun Trump’s election. It will all shake out in the end. Trump was absolutely right about draining the swamp and making America great again. I just don’t think it’s happening how he intended 🙂

What is being shown more frequently is that the business community and the general population has moved ahead of Republican legislators on a few issues (guns and gays, for example) but Republican legislators refuse to move forward due to politics.

Hey NRA why stop at assault rifles? Should I not be able to own a grenade launcher? Should I not be able to go buy a rocket launcher? Should I not be able to go buy a bazooka? How about a tank with a huge gun on the end of that? These are all arms correct? Doesn’t the Second Amendment say I have the right to bear arms? I would like to know your stance on these weapons and why you do not support my right to own them. Somebsimple questions do any of you guys have any answers?
I mean come on, our forefathers were talking about muskets when they wrote the Second Amendment, they had no idea what an assault rifle was. But if you guys think it is OK for me to own an assault rifle because that’s what our forefathers were saying then why can I not on any of the above?

Would our forefathers have written the First Amendment the way they did if they were aware of the internet? Until the internet one had to work to make their message known and ideas which couldn’t gather public support died. Now anyone, with very little effort, can post anything they want, no matter how crazy, to almost the whole world in hope of finding a few gullible individuals.
I don’t believe that the Second Amendment allows me to possess any weapon I want, but trying to ban the AR-15 hoping to solve the problem without looking at other factors which contributed to this tragedy will only allow it to happen again in another form.

The Republican Party is OWNED by the NRA. I am a gun owner but see no need to own assault weapons of war. I am no longer a repub or NRA member. We need a Common Sense Party and leave all the money out of it.

If only there was proof of the things that you say, sheeple

NRA membership is less than 2% of the population and yet the NRA owns 100% of Republican politicians……dumbass.

And the top 1% own 50% of the worlds wealth, so what’s your point, hater. Are you talking out of Buds ass, because he knows better.

Bud, answer the question. Where’s your proof that you are no longer a repub or an NRA member. And don’t let anonymous answer for you, as he’ll get it all screwed up.

Wow … these alt-right Holier-than-thou, flag-waving little dicks and Rambo wannabes really get upset when they think someone is discriminating against them.

Gotta love it.

Most people forget about these deaths until it happens to them. And I will bet that some of these deaths were horrific also.

An estimated 88,000 people (approximately 62,000 men and 26,000 women8) die from alcohol-related causes annually, making alcohol the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States. The first is tobacco, and the second is poor diet and physical inactivity.

So with that mentality we should boycott all alcohol brewers, tobacco growers, fast food businesses, and lazy people. But it will never happen.

Apples & Oranges Allen, Apples & Oranges.

The deaths that you mentioned while bad are by personal choice.

The 13 murdered at Columbine, the 20 children between six and seven years old, as well as six adult staff members murdered at Sandy Hook and the 14 young teenagers & 3 teachers recently murdered at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida did not chose to die.
They were executed.

That is a huge difference Allen.

So using your reasoning the victims of drunk drivers made a personal choice.

he/her/it, posts before they think. There’s no reasoning in them.

It goes both ways, there is money on both sides of a political issue. I think we are losing sight of who is more responsible for this incident. I don’t see nra as being the cause. I guess the list of those companies means I will find other companies to do business with. 2nd vote website also lists companies who you may not want to do business with if you dont lean left. Visit it.

This is not and should not be a party issue. They should release pictures showing the damage these weapons of war do to children and see where public opinion is then. Reagan at least had enough common sense to ban assault weapons but the NRA backed Republican Party repealed it. Common sense please, not all about NRA campaign dollars.

Now that’s is popular to become part of the growing haters group, many companies are deciding to cancel their affiliations with the NRA. What I find odd about this is; look at the millions of dollars these same companies realized because of their affiliation with the NRA.

I’m sure many NRA members will choose to also disassociate with these companies now as well. That is a freedom that works both ways.

So Buzz, if you don’t support my right to own a firearm, that makes you a 2nd Amendment hypocrite. Care to explain your positions?

WHAT !!!

NRA memberships have exploded over the weekend.

Last I saw there were about 5 million NRA members in a country of more than 330 million. That’s about 1.5% of the population. I know they’re outspoken and more than 1.5% of people support gun rights, but most people are for common sense reforms. The NRA is not.

Thank you for that commonsense comment. Most people that I know are for the second amendment and the right to bear arms, but there has to be some sort of gun law reform and the NRA wants nothing to do with that. This is not about taking away the Second Amendment, this is about comments sense gun reform. There is no way it should be easier to purchase a firearm then it is to get a drivers license.

It’s not so simple. Fair Play still needs addressed. When you say “common sense gun laws”, you probably mean restricting access, and restrictive access is at the crux of the debate. Portray this world as a jungle. Wouldn’t it be advantageous to one lion if he could make it so other lions had no sharp teeth and claws? And if he could formulate a system of governance to systematically remove teeth and claws of all newborn predators, wouldnt he stand to reign superior?

Well If they don’t do business with the NRA then WE won’t do business with them ! How to go broke by taking advice from the commie democrat party – How stupid can the snowflakes get ! PLEASE DON’T ANSWER !!!!!
