Kim Reynolds loses campaign manager as primary inches closer

Kim Reynolds

DES MOINES – The Kim Reynolds campaign for governor has lost its manager as the June primary inches closer, according to the Associated Press.

Incumbent Republican governor Kim Reynolds faces the June 5, 2018 primary without the services of Phil Valenziano, her campaign manager. The Associated Press reports that he “has moved on and that she would name his replacement in coming weeks.” The AP says Reynolds thanked Valenziano for his efforts and that he will pursue other opportunities.

Valenziano was arrested in West Des Moines on June 24, 2017 for public intoxication after he encountered a police officer. A search of Iowa Courts Online shows no record of the arrest, however.  He has previously worked for the Chris Christie for President campaign, former Governor Terry Branstad’s campaign and Mitt Romney’s Presidential campaign.

The Reynolds campaign has not made a statement in reference to her campaign staff shakeup.  She faces one challenger in the June 5 primary – Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett.  Her campaign most recently claimed, however, that it has over $4.1 million cash on hand.
