MASON CITY – A student allegedly threatened to use a weapon at Mason City High School on Friday, and police responded with an investigation.

On Friday, February 23, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. the Mason City Police Department School Resource Officer was alerted to a threat made by a student at Mason City High School during the class day. The threat referenced bringing a weapon to school to use against others. Police immediately began an investigation into this incident.

As a result of the investigation, the student who made the threat was referred to Juvenile Court Services on charges related to the incident. Iowa Law prohibits the release of information that would identify the student involved.
The Mason City Police Department is working closely with the Mason City Community School District on this investigation. They say their common goal is to insure that teachers, staff, and students in the MCCSD have a safe environment in which to be productive teachers and learners.

If anyone has information about this incident, we ask that they call the Mason City Police Department, 641-421-3636, and ask for Criminal Investigation Division Lieutenant Rich Jensen.
