Mason City police respond to threat of use of weapon at High School

MCHS hallway
MASON CITY – A student allegedly threatened to use a weapon at Mason City High School on Friday, and police responded with an investigation.

On Friday, February 23, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. the Mason City Police Department School Resource Officer was alerted to a threat made by a student at Mason City High School during the class day. The threat referenced bringing a weapon to school to use against others. Police immediately began an investigation into this incident.

As a result of the investigation, the student who made the threat was referred to Juvenile Court Services on charges related to the incident. Iowa Law prohibits the release of information that would identify the student involved.
The Mason City Police Department is working closely with the Mason City Community School District on this investigation. They say their common goal is to insure that teachers, staff, and students in the MCCSD have a safe environment in which to be productive teachers and learners.

If anyone has information about this incident, we ask that they call the Mason City Police Department, 641-421-3636, and ask for Criminal Investigation Division Lieutenant Rich Jensen.

It took so long because one of the kids involved in the “conversation” is the son of a MCPD cop. Had to make sure they got their stories straight so his kid doesn’t get implicated as well, and it worked.

pokey man time

once again we can thank the media, this kid has probably been shunned and bullied all his life and was sitting home thinking about the flordia shootings, he thought wow that kid is getting his picture on national tv and the papers with his name In big letters, I want that, so being a few cards short of a full deck, he decides to get his name in big letters and on national tv, thanks again media

OR you can thank NIT and the person who “spoke up” for bringing this to light otherwise No one would have known about it at all and could have ended up like another Florida incident. Apparently many people knew about this Florida kid and did NOTHING! Many kids died.

Once again something doesn’t add up here….threats were made during the day but Resource Officer not notified until 4:00 p.m.??!! This is another example of keeping things “under the wraps” and NOT taking SERIOUSLY!! Are you kidding me…how many more of these types of incidents will it take to “WAKE” this district up!! I guarantee our students have not been trained/practiced any kind of Active Shooter Training! All the plans in the world mean nothing unless we’ve properly trained everyone potentially involved!

It sure would be nice to know the name of this student, just incase he is my neighbor or someone that lives in the neighborhood.

It sure would be nice to know your real first and last name so that our neighborhood could watch out for a right wingnut psycho like you

Now isn’t that calling the kettle black, Laughing Out Loud. 🙂

Hey Bozo could you sing that at Be a Clown song for us? I really like that song.

Now, isn’t that calling the kettle black! LMAO, while Laughing Out Loud. 🙂

They are not being honest the child was intercepted with the weapon on one of the buses while on the way to school

No, that was a different incident with an elementary student.

So there was another treat? Why have i not heard of this

No, this isn’t Halloween !!!

Because there was no threat, kid used his backpack for another outing and forgot to take something out before going to school that morning. Ever heard of a mistake?!

It was a plastic pirate toy gun. The boy was 6 years old and didn’t understand.

He got suspended for 3 days.
