CHARLES CITY – Law enforcement chased a stolen vehicle out of Charles City Friday and were only able to stop the Minnesota driver after stop-sticks were deployed.
At 11:11 AM today, the Charles City police department took a report of a vehicle which was stolen from a gas station in the 1500 block of South Grand Avenue. Due to the quick thinking of a deputy with the Floyd county sheriff’s office, the vehicle was located south on Highway 218. The subject who was driving the stolen vehicle did not stop for the deputy and a high speed chase ensued. Law enforcement did eventually deploy tire deflation devices.
As a result, 22-year-old Shawndell Smith of Saint Paul, Minnesota was arrested and taken into custody south of Janesville. He is being charged with 2nd degree theft, a felony, by the CCPD.
