MASON CITY – For the third time this season, NIACC sophomore Taylor Laabs has been selected as the ICCAC women’s basketball player of the week for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4.

Laabs, a sophomore guard, shared the ICCAC Division II award this week with Southeastern’s Nadirah Oakman.

Laabs also earned the award during the week of Nov. 13-19 and Jan. 8-14.

Last week, Laabs scored a career-high 42 points and connected on nine 3-point goals in the Lady Trojans’ win over Southwestern. She also scored 19 points with six assists and five steals in a win over Iowa Lakes.

The 42 points by Laabs is tied for the third on the NIACC women’s single-game scoring list and the nine 3-point goals is tied for seventh on the school’s single-game list.

Laabs ranks third on the school’s career three-point list with 118.
No. 15 NIACC returns to action Saturday in an ICCAC contest at Southeastern. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

The NIACC women’s basketball team is ranked No. 15 in this week’s NJCAA Division II poll.

Monroe CC (18-1) continues to hold down the top spot for the eighth straight poll.

Kirkwood (21-3) remained No. 2 while the Lady Trojans (18-5) moved up a spot from No. 16.

NIACC (5-2 in the ICCAC) returns to action Saturday at Southeastern in Keokuk. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

MASON CITY – The NIACC wrestling team is ranked 11th in the latest Intermat NJCAA rankings.

NIACC, which was ranked 13th in the Jan. 10 rankings, will compete in the NJCAA North Central District meet on Sunday in Fort Dodge.

Iowa Central is ranked third, Ellsworth is ranked sixth, Iowa Western is ranked ninth and Iowa Lakes is ranked 10th.

In the individual rankings, NIACC’s Austin Anderly is ranked first at 141 pounds and Noah Jackson is ranked fourth at 157 pounds.
