CEDAR RAPIDS – Thanks to a request from Alliant Energy and an approval from the Iowa Utilities Board, you will be paying more for your electric service.
The IUB issued a final decision and order today which approves a settlement agreement allowing Alliant Energy–Interstate Power and Light Company, to increase its customer electric rates.
Alliant Energy says customers will have new options as part of an approved rate settlement for Alliant Energy’s Iowa energy company. On April 3, 2017, the company proposed its first rate review in six years to the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB). Today, the IUB ruled on the request.
“We will continue to help our customers by advancing clean energy and strengthening the energy grid,” said Doug Kopp, president of Alliant Energy’s Iowa energy company. “We are reviewing the Board’s decision.”
The IUB approved the partial settlement agreement filed in September. This ruling allows Alliant Energy to continue to use previously identified tax benefits to reduce the overall bill impact for customers. Alliant Energy will work with the IUB to determine the best method to begin providing additional benefits from lower corporate taxes due to the recently enacted federal tax reform.
The specific rate adjustments and overall impacts to customer bills will be available when the company files its revised tariffs.
Today’s decision enables the company to move forward with new energy solutions for customers. These include lower cost Time of Day pricing, a lower cost Second Nature program and more. Details on these programs will be available online in early 2018.
The IUB also approved continuation of the transmission rider, which adjusts customer rates based on transmission costs approved by federal regulators. This will allow customers to quickly receive benefits related to lower corporate taxes from the company’s transmission providers.
The company continues to review the written decision order from the IUB. Parties have 20 days to ask the IUB to rehear or reconsider its decision. Until that process is concluded, the IUB’s decision is not final and the information provided in this news release is subject to change.

I just got my electric bill and I am paying 20.3 cents per kw. It was not that long ago I wan only paying 8 cents per kw.
I am told by rural REC members that we should all expect 40 cents per kw in the next few years to pay for the wind mills.
Alliant Energy will say that is BS but they all lie and they will give us some big run around story. The big shots in Des Moines that regulate the prices will go along with all the rate increases too.
Bottom Line: The citizens of Iowa are getting screwed!
I remember the days of the local power company skimming a fat bonus from unsuspecting customers. And yes the money was kept local. Wind energy is sold to others on the power grid for a fat profit. And I do recall them saying that are costs would go down building these pinwheels. Whats next selling us local water bottle at 2.00 a pop. Oh wait, they already do that. What there going to do is start putting key pads on business restrooms. No buy, no piss.
Usage fluctuates each month based upon temperatures. What I want to know, and I’m not going to study this entire document, is did the board consider that Alliant will see higher margins due to Trumps tax cuts? If not then this entire process should be revisited.

I just got a mailing from alliant showing that electric and gas prices were declining. told the wife then, they are lowering them so in a few weeks they can raise them higher then they are now. doesn’t make a lot of sense. they got you bent over the barrel, can charge what they want because you cant get it elsewhere. its called a monopoly
My bill was $189 last month its $245 this month how can people pay that high of a bill? I dont use more than usual each month my energy assistance didnt even last through the winter.
Mine was $198.00 two months ago and $178.00 now. Calm before the storm.
