MASON CITY – An illegal gambling charge against a Mason City bar has been dismissed, according to state documents.
According to a charge brought by the Iowa Attorney General’s Office, on or about April 14, 2017, the liquor licensee at Homer’s Bar – Dana Despenas – or an agent or employee of the licensee, knowingly possessed or controlled an illegal gambling device, engaged in illegal gambling on the licensed premises, and/or permitted illegal gambling to occur on the licensed premises in violation of Iowa Code by allowing the operation of and/or making available for play on the licensed premises an electrical amusement device with an expired registration.
However, the Iowa Department of Public Safety, through Counsel John Lundquist, Assistant Attorney General, dismissed without prejudice, the above-mentioned matter on October 25, 2017.
