SOCCER: NIACC men win, women lose

MASON CITY – The NIACC women’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday with a 4-1 defeat to Iowa Lakes in a nonconference contest.

The match was tied 1-1 at the half but the Lakers scored three second-half goals.

Lena Oliver put the Lady Trojans (3-1 overall) in front 1-0 with 35 minutes, 19 seconds left in the first half on an assist from Jessica Altman.
Iowa Lakes tied the contest at 1-1 with 26:09 remaining in the first half on a goal from Madeleine Duncan.

Duncan scored two more goals in the second half for the Lakers. Tessa Calabria also scored a goal in the second half for the Lakers.

NIACC returns to action Saturday at home against Indian Hills. The match is slated to start at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, The NIACC men’s soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Iowa Lakes Wednesday afternoon on the NIACC campus.

The match was tied 0-0 at the half but the Lakers scored four second-half goals to claim the victory. Scoring goals for the Lakers were Abel Gebrekiros, Craig Barker, Antonio Hernandez and Levi Heholt.

Wednesday’s match against the Lakers was a nonconference match. The ICCAC match against the two foes is set for Oct. 21 in Spencer.

NIACC returns to action Saturday at home in an ICCAC match against Indian Hills. Match time is set for 2 p.m
