Mexico issues official statement after President Trump tweets on NAFTA and border wall

Donald Trump

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO – The government of Mexico and President Donald Trump do not seem to be on the same page when it comes to a controversial trade agreement (NAFTA) and a border wall he says our neighbor to the south will pay for.

President Trump issued the following tweets Sunday, August 27 regarding the future of NAFTA and the border wall, both hotly-contested issues between the U.S. and Mexico:

MEXICO

Regarding Sunday morning’s expressions by the President of the United States of America on various issues of the bilateral relationship, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico responded with the following:

1. As the Mexican government has always maintained, our country will not pay, under any circumstances and under any circumstances, a wall or physical barrier that is built in US territory along the Mexican border. This determination is not part of a Mexican negotiating strategy, but a principle of national sovereignty and dignity.

2. With regard to the violence generated in Mexico by the illicit traffic in drugs, arms and money between our countries, we reiterate that it is a shared problem that will only end if its root causes are addressed: the high demand for drugs in the United States and the offer from Mexico (and other countries). International criminal organizations have killed thousands of Mexicans, including members of the Armed Forces and police, and thousands of Americans. Only on the basis of the principles of shared responsibility, teamwork and mutual trust can we overcome this challenge.

3. Mexico’s position at the renegotiation table of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) will continue to be serious and constructive, always putting national interest ahead and seeking a result in which the three North American countries win.

4. Mexico will not negotiate NAFTA, nor any other aspect of the bilateral relationship, through social networks or the media.

The Mexican government takes this opportunity to express its full solidarity with the people and government of the United States for the damages caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, and reports that we have offered the US government all the help and cooperation that can be provided by the different Mexican government agencies to deal with the impacts of this natural disaster, as good neighbors should always do in times of difficulty.

Ross Perot predicted back in 1992 while running for President, if America adopted NATFA there would be huge “sucking sound” from the jobs lost.

That has come to pass!!!

Today America is locked in a battle for our Soul. America started drifting into the abyss after NAFTA and GATT were passed.

The Make America Great Again movement started by President Trump is the direct result of NAFTA,GATT, and shifting America’s economy to a service and information based economy.

In 1980 I read a book titled “Megatrends”. It was in the 80’s America moved away from an Industrial Based Economy to a Service And Information Based Economy. That change has really screwed this country up. Passing NAFTA and GATT just added more fuel and speed to change America into a Socialist country.

I don’t know if Trump’s Make America Great Again movement will succeed or not, however, if we know whats good for us we should support his efforts. From my perspective, if MAGA fails, America is doomed to become a third world country and that don’t bode well for the American people.

I don’t want America to be like Europe!

NAFTA took nearly four years to negotiate the first time around, and that was with an initial commitment from all parties to reach an agreement.
Now, Trump wants to force an overhaul of the entire system with plans to finish in five months, with both Canada and Mexico opposing the changes.
Plus, Canada and Mexico both have plenty of leverage.
What has Trump got besides a lot of hot air?
Little or nothing will come of this, just like every other empty promise Trump has made.

LVS there is some jerk that posts using several other people’s moniker. I have talked to Matt about requiring folks to register their name they use to post under. One could still remain anonymous but would have to log in to post.

I am personally getting to the point with all the hate and nasty comments that using my real name as a requirement would not be an unreasonable requirement.

As time goes on and all the phony facts and hateful rhetoric that is on the internet, it occurs to me that this type of commentary has contributed to the heightened tensions in this country.

I currently don’t use my own name because of business, but if everyone had to then I would have no problem using my real name. I just don’t like to try and defend my beliefs against some anonymous jerk that will say anything even though it is untrue and often hurtful.

Hypocrisy & selective faux castigation there Watchdog.
For years you have bad mouthed people on this site innumerable times.
And now you attempt to cuddle up to LVS, who is the most prolific of all on here for mudslinging, name-calling and outright degrading of other peoples comments.
Your false indignation carries no weight.

As to phony facts & rhetoric, much of your commentary in the past reflects those exact same falsehoods.
You have no room to call out anyone, what with your past record.

I have called people out in the past that don’t have our best interest at hand. But unlike you I don’t call people names for the sake of killing the messenger. With that said I have made the commitment to never act like you.

You should consider doing the same and offer something to the discussion. Attacking the messenger is what the Lame Street Media does. Maybe you are part of that, huh.

And by the way, LVS only reacts to people like you name calling. I find his posts informative. So now you are worrying I am cuddling up. That is a rib tickler.

“LVS only reacts to people like you name calling” – Watchdog
That is pure unadulterated bullshit and everyone on this site knows it.
“I find his posts informative.” – Watchdog
Now that is truly hilarious there Watchdog, have you considered a future in comedy?
“So now you are worrying I am cuddling up.” – Watchdog
Not worried at all there Watchdog, if you want to snuggle up with LVS, well that is between two consenting adults.

BS, you called people out & called them names in the past just because their comments did not sit well with your beliefs. Don’t lie about what you damn well know that you did. If you want to change, that is great but do not attempt to side-step your past.
You can be a man, own up and acknowledge your true past and that I would respect.
But with your last comment, you are making a a very feeble attempt at some sort of false righteousness.

Watchdog-Thank you for your reasonable and accurate comments. Anon and several other liberal posters seem to think they can attack people with impunity and not ever get a response from me. It doesn’t work that way. If I am attacked I will attack back. This site used to have rules about personal attacks but does not enforce them anymore. I too enjoy your comments and find them informative. You do not resort to the mudslinging that Anon and other liberals use to try and intimidate people.

LVS – 90% exported – Hmm ? Is that the reason Iowa’s former governor was appointed as ambassador to china? Will Iowa become china’s own hoglot?

Chrysler, GM, Ford, Volkswagon all build engines in Mexico. GE and Catapillar are all there too.

That’s the move the corps made to bust the unions….. and look what it got us.

That’s the move the Corporations made to make more money. A lot of non-union company’s are there too. Yes,the unions are pricing themselves out of the market, but they are not the only ones losing jobs to NAFTA. Mexico isn’t the only country taking jobs. South Korea, Philapines, Japan, China and South America. Don’t forget Canada and Europe.

90% of Iowa Agriculture is exported to our international trading partners thru NAFTA.

Fca builds ram pickups in Mexico thanks to Nafta. John Deere engines built in Mexico thanks to nafta. American jobs lost to nafta. That needs to change. Stop buying this Mexican built shit

Nafta =Shafta for Americans = DUMPSTER !
