Three people taken to hospital after accident in Charles City

CHARLES CITY – Three people were hurt in a two-car accident Sunday in Charles City, and a former Chicago woman was cited for a traffic offense.

The accident happened Sunday, August 27 at about 1:35 PM at the intersection of South Johnson Street and 3rd Street. Officers with the Charles City police department arrived at that time to investigate a two-vehicle collision. They say a tan 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 33-year-old Tatiana Baker of Charles City was southbound on Soth Johnson Street when she failed to yield the right-of-way. Her car struck a white 2011 Chevy Impala driven by 54-year-old Kimberly Carman of Charles City, which was eastbound on 3rd Street.

As a result of the collision, three person whom police did not name were transported to a local hospital for potential injuries.

Total damage was estimated at $7,000.

Baker was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way and no insurance.

According to a public social media post, Baker, who is from Chicago, said hours after the accident that “We was in a bad car accident my son has 33 stiches in his face they put me on some pain med. It’s gonna be hard but I go and look at my car tomorrow Lord help me plz.”
