St. Ansgar man dead after Minnesota auto crash

RURAL GOODHUE COUNTY, MINNESOTA – A St. Ansgar man died in an auto crash in Minnesota late last week.

According to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol, on Friday, August 11 at 6:50 PM, 22-year-old Jacob Paul Nelson of St. Ansgar was driving a 2005 Chevy Impala and was stopped at the stop sign at Highway 57 at Highway 52 in rural Gooduee county, Minnesota. He proceeded northbound, crossed southbound Highway 52 traffic, and failed to yield at the median yield sign, pulling out in front of a northbound 2018 Freightliner Tractor driven by 54-year-old Christopher John Small of Coon Rapids, Minnesota.

As a result of the collision, a passenger in the Impala, 22-year-old Cody Squier of St. Ansgar, was killed. Nelson was injured. The truck driver was not hurt.  The report states all three people were wearing seat belts.
