MASON CITY – A deceased person was taken from a wooded area today in Mason City by police and paramedics.
The incident originated Sunday morning around 9:00 AM, when residents on the 1000 block of 9th Street NE witnessed a substantial police presence and ambulance there, near a trail that leads to a wooded area. A source tells NIT “came home from church today about 10:30 AM and at the end of 9th Street NE at the 1000 block there is a path into the woods and 5 police cars and 1 ambulance (were) parked there. About 5 min later a paramedic carrying a ladder followed by a couple more with the stretcher and body bag on it came out of the woods. The police came out and all left. Haven’t heard anything on facebook so must be very secret. The stretcher came out of the woods, there are stretcher wheel marks on the path. There was a body bag on the stretcher.”
Mason City police reports confirm that there was a missing persons report from a nearby residence on North Ohio Avenue late Saturday evening for an adult male. Police were searching for the missing person as a result of that report. Then at 8:58 AM Sunday morning, Mason City police officers were dispatched to this wooded area and an adjacent home for a medical call that turned out to be a death.
NIT has asked police for any details on the incident and will report more if information should become available.
His obituary was in the Globe Gazette today. Such a sad thing !
