Former NIACC standout Kaputin to compete in World Championships

LONDON, England – Former NIACC track and field standout Rellie Kaputin will compete in the 2017 World Championships for her native country of Papua New Guinea.

Kaputin will compete in the women’s long jump preliminaries on Wednesday with the finals being held on Friday.

Kaputin, who competed at NIACC in 2014-15, holds four NIACC school records. She is the school record holder in the indoor long jump (5.79 meters), indoor triple jump (12.22 meters) and indoor high jump (1.70 meters) and outdoor long jump (5.91 meters).

After NIACC, Kaputin transferred to West Texas A&M, a NCAA Division II school, where she just recently completed her college eligibility.

Kaputin, who was selected as the 2017 USTFCCCA female athlete of the year, was a NCAA Division II national indoor and outdoor champion in the triple jump as a senior and placed second in the long jump at both the indoor and national meets.

At the 2017 national outdoor meet, Kaputin set a school record of 13.28 meters, which is the second longest jump in NCAA Division II history.
