Already it’s Sunday once more; Sundays seem to be stacking up faster than empty beer bottles around Mayor Eric Bookmeyer. High on my list of weekly enjoyment is John Skipper’s column which I feel is the best part of a newspaper that has witnessed better days.
John is deep… he is at times a “code writer” in today’s column about a casino going north. Today what he wrote was just pulp for the hoi polloi; really, just a select few can decipher code, I being proficient among them knew the real story.
I would wholeheartedly agree the people of Worth County are tough, but you can brush away most of the hyperbole John fed you today. The real and only reason the casino landed in Worth County was Terry Branstad. Worth Country is Branstad County; now listen up… just who in the hell do you think appointed those sitting around the “Gaming Commision” table? If you said Terry Branstad you win a bucket of pig shit.
Let me bring it closer to home so those who perpetrated much the same thing will know they didn’t fool those who read code. There is a motion on the table before the city council to rename the Mason City Room in honor of the late council person Alex Khun. Bookmeyer hates everything Kuhn, he credits Alex for instigating the defeat of Prestage Foods and if you believe that as do I then it’s reason enough to rename it immediately, because in sacrificing himself to the abuse that followed he paid the ultimate price. Did you all know Eric was banned from Alex’s funeral? Being class-less, arrogant and demented, he went anyway.
How many CAFO’s do you think we’d be dealing with here if Alex stayed quiet? Look 20 miles North. Just as Terry appointed the Gaming Commission, Eric appointed the Library Board. The $500,000.00 naming fee imposed to rename the room is the work of one person….Eric Bookmeyer. The Library Board should be ashamed of themselves. There should be pickets out front of the Library every time the board meets.
As to why Northwood got the Casino… it was a get out of jail free pass issued by Terry; he told the Board he appointed how to vote… all the rest is pure pig shit. Don’t blame John Skipper for trying to pull the pig shit over your eyes, he was counting on me to to bring out the real truth…..

John is a decent man, he’s just wired differently. Don’t ever forget he has an employer whose agenda he must follow. I think he’s burned some bridges here but he’s a big boy and he must have weigh the consequences.
Friendships come with responsibilities; man does not live by bread alone…..but the best friendships flourish on two way streets and the best nutrient for it is mutual respect….. John Skipper lives in his own world and it appears it’s a choice he himself chose. He could be a quart low on ethics as I know of more than one who he blindsided; not good!

As to Eric Bookmeyer; in my eariiler years I was in the bar business, I met thousands of drunks no different I might say from him. The only interest I might express toward him is his diabolical nature when it comes to this city. Bookmeyer methodlicaly loaded every commission and board in this city. He did it to the HR commission, the Park Board, the Airport Commission the Library Board and probably more we don’t know about, he is one sick puppy.
He took Weaver off the Landfill board and put Turnquist in that seat. That lasted all of about 5 minutes. In two terms as Mayor Bookmeyer has failed to bring a discernible industry to this city.
When NIT releases the comprehensive look back on the Bookmeyer years and the damage he did to MC, we’ll most-definitely include a chapter on the stocking of boards and commissions.
