MASON CITY – A nurse and others at Mercy Hospital in Mason City helped a 102-year-old man fulfill his wish of flying in a helicopter.
On the morning of July 18, 102-year-old Henry Vierkant fulfilled an item on his bucket list thanks to his nurse, Allie, and the Mercy Air Med crew. He had told her about his “bucket list” and that started a chain reaction to make his dream come true.
He called his flight on the Mercy Air Med helicopter a “wonderful” time. The flight went over Apple Valley Assisted Living, where henry lives.
“It was an experience I didn’t think I would ever have,” he told the crew when they landed.
It’s so sad to see negative comments about someone who worked all their life and received a small gradatude back from society. The staff who took care of him and others like him fall in love with his personality because he is so positive. People like him don’t expect anything. This is why they want to give to him. Being negative doesn’t do anything but show how it’s a “All about me” society nowadays.

No they’ll be like Alliant energy and use it as a positive PR spin and then charge the expense to it’s customers. Good for him but the rest of the public will pay for the ride
I had 1 of those rides a few years back to Iowa City – cost 22,500 but it saved my life — asked head doctor down there if I could fly back with my AR 15 and an open door – He released me early when he found out I was a Vet -good people down there.
Hope they billed him for it.
