Mason City High and Newman baseball teams qualify for state

MASON CITY – With victories Wednesday, both the Mason City High School Mohawks and Newman High School Knights have qualified for the state baseball tournament in Des Moines.

Mason City defeated Ankeny Centennial, 6-3 Wednesday to secure a 4A tourney slot. The Mohawks are in the state tournament for the 12th time and first since 2011, according to the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
Mason City beat Indianola Tuesday night in a substate road game.

Meanwhile, Newman Catholic beat Algona Bishop Garrigan, 5-1, Wednesday.  The Iowa High School Athletic Association says Newman has a state best 21st State trip.  The Knights are 5-times champions with 10 straight trips to state.

The Mason City Baseball coaches and team will be having a community pep assembly at Roosevelt Field on Tuesday, July 25th at 7:15 PM. The team will be signing autographs and boosters will be selling State Baseball T-Shirts.

The Boosters will also be selling State T-shirts on Monday night from 4 PM to 6 PM at Roosevelt Field.

Mason City takes on West Des Moines Dowling on Wednesday, July 26 at 7:30 PM at Principal Park.

Newman plays CAM, Anita on Friday, July 21 at 11 AM.

State shirts will be available in the Newman’s main lobby from 4:30-6:30 Thursday, the school says.
