Iowa man sent to prison for possession of child pornography

DES MOINES – An Iowa man will spend 6 years behind bars for sharing child porn through a server.

On June 2, 2017, David Ray Nelson, a 31 year-old resident of Moravia, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Stephanie Rose to 72 months in prison for possession of child pornography. Nelson will be required to serve 7 years of supervised release following his imprisonment.

On January 27, 2017, Nelson pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with possession of child pornography on or about August 25, 2016. The charge resulted from an investigation into the distribution of child pornography via a peer-to-peer file sharing network. Law enforcement followed up with a search warrant of Nelson’s residence and located several computers and digital storage devices that contained numerous images and videos of child pornography.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, and Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation. This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
