Mason City councilman Brett Schoneman resigns from council

Brett Schoneman

MASON CITY – Mason City Third Ward Councilman Brett Schoneman tells NIT Monday morning that he is resigning from the city council.

This is Mr. Schoneman’s resignation letter:

To be successful, a person, a business, or a city needs to write out their priorities and goals on paper so when a tough decision comes up, the emotion of the moment doesn’t make it more difficult than it needs to be. If the opportunity matches the goals and priorities, you need to ACT. If you hesitate, you will compromise yourself or the organization that you represent. In my experience, these opportunities are never easy and almost always look like an uphill battle. This is what all the good stuff in life looks like. Good health, good relationships, and a successful business almost always look like hard work and an uphill battle, but they are worth it. I’ve never heard a successful businessperson say that they passed on several opportunities to find their business where they would like it to be. My family is taking our own advice and the new opportunity will have me moving outside of Ward 3, thereby not allowing me to serve on the Mason City City Council. I’ve enjoyed serving the city in this position and I will continue to serve North Iowa as I did before I was elected. Mason City is an astounding community that has a lot more potential than they know. I’ve lived in several communities and there really is something special here. I challenge the incoming City Council and incoming Mayor to take the vision of the community as they always have, but to not be afraid to take opportunities as they come up. This town is strong enough that no one project can make or break it, but we need to stop being a glass half empty type of city and figure out what we can be successful at, then charge the Elected officials to go get it!

did troy hanson move?? ive always known him to live in the 4th ward

I’m ready for some hard truth and a updated town.
Pigs really?
Everyone one knows the above class people so” THEY think ” of themselves are actually very booooring people. Typical typical.

If you’ve traveled to any hip place then you know what we need, sorry but Weaver is the one in either capacity of official. You know it too, you just can’t bear the thought. Move on with your thinking.

We need leaders with good ideas. That leaves Max Weaver out of the running!

WE NEED CANDIDATES THOROUGHLY VETTED!!!!!

People elected in Mason City always have an agenda that conforms to the Chamber Of Commerce and do ONLY what they want and end up pushing their crap down the throats of the taxpayers.

What do you mean by good ideas? There doesn’t seem to be a consensus in this community as far as what we are trying to achieve. So far, the anti-growth crowd in this community continues to be very vocal and effectively setting city policies (resulting in population decline and economic stagnation).

So, what is the goal here in this city? Growth? Status quo??

We do not need Max Weaver on the council or mayor as he is only a negative individual. Get a real job Max.

I’d vote for Troy Hanson, good guy with great ideas. Also lives in the 3rd ward and has several rentals and owner of Anytime Fitness. Go for it Troy

Who in their right mind would perform public service and submit to the ridicule and toxic comments of many NIT posters?

can you blame anyone for leaving? Look whats walking our streets. Look whats filling our schools. Look at whats sitting down town all day. Why would anyone with their future ahead of them, stay here? Please list the reasons?

Ba-Bye!! So WE can replace him, Bookmeyer, Schickel, Hickey and Solberg PLUS we MUST vote down this huge hotel/hockey mess!!! I think Max is in the 3rd ward to replace Brett BUT there’s a good chance he will run for Mayor.

Just because I’m sure it’s going to be funny…What does your vision of Mason City look like with a Max Weaver sitting in the Mayor’s office?

just imagine a clown suit and a big red nose. Weaver is a joke

The clown, the suit, big red nose, and the joke is already in the mayor’s office and he’s been there way too long!

The clown, the suit, the big red nose and the joke are already in the mayors office and he has occupied it too long!

It wasn’t funny the first time you posted.

Actually it was funny!

Where is the 3rd Ward? Who will be next? You need Pam Myhre for Council or Mayor.

Good idea. Wonder if she is interested.

If you don’t know where the 3rd Ward is, you must be one of those low information voters.

Pam lives in the 3rd ward but she’s making plans to be a snowbird….

I wonder if he was planning on moving if he had succeeded in getting MC the slaughterhouse? Bye, Brent, no one in MC needed your dirty politics anyway, take Bookmeyer with you.

Could this be stemming from a group of businesspeople organized to make changes and vote as a group? I have heard and now it was proven to me that this group, lead by a MC businessman has been pushing hard to influence elections and putting pressure on failing people in office. County board of Supervisors were affected by them.

Do you means likee the Russians?

His house has been for sale for quite a while so this doesn’t surprise me. Heard he bought a house in Clear Lake.

I’m sure Brett will have success kissing ass, and lining his pockets wherever he ends up.

Did not see that coming!
