Area nonprofits receive over $60,000 in grants from Alliant Energy Foundation

CEDAR RAPIDS – Twenty-eight area nonprofit organizations are receiving community grants totaling $60,920 from the Alliant Energy Foundation in the first of its two 2017 giving cycles.

“These organizations do such valuable work that makes our communities stronger,” said Julie Bauer, executive director of the Alliant Energy Foundation. “Our investments support their crucial activities in the areas of Helping Families, Education and the Environment.”

Among those earning grants are:

  • Elderbridge Agency on Aging, Mason City, $5,000 for Emergency Shelf Stable Pantry Meals
  • Youth and Shelter Services Inc., Ames, $5,000 for Shelter Services Curriculum for Youth
  • Iowa State University Foundation, Ames, $5,000 for Women in Science and Engineering
  • North Iowa Area Community College Foundation, Mason City, $3,500 for YES! Super

Science Camp

  • Raising Readers in Story County, Ames, $3,000 for Read to Succeed and StoryTime
  • Iowa Department of Natural Resources, $3,000 for Project AWARE in St. Ansgar
  • Carroll County Council for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Carroll, $2,500 for expansion of crisis and respite services
  • Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA, $2,500 for Y Summer Camp and STEM for All

Also receiving grants are: Marshalltown Public Library; Iowa Lakes Corridor Initiative, Spirit Lake; Union County Child Care Center, Creston; City of Marshalltown; South Hardin High School, Eldora; Newman Catholic School, Mason City; Heart of Iowa Big Brothers Big Sisters, Marshalltown; Casey Library Betterment Association; Buena Vista University, Storm Lake; Central Gardens of North Iowa Inc., Clear Lake; Spirit Lake Community School District; Riceville Community School District; City of Ellston; City of St. Ansgar; Big Splash Inc., Spirit Lake; Collins Maxwell Partners in Education, Collins; Voluntary Action Center of the Iowa Great Lakes Inc., Spirit Lake; Iowa Specialty Hospital, Clarion; City of Conway; and Marshalltown Community School District.

These grants are among 183 the Foundation awarded this grant cycle, totaling over $475,000.
