Mason City woman among three people hurt in auto accident

RURAL MASON CITY – A Mason City woman and two Minnesota residents were hurt in a head-on collision Monday.

The accident took place Monday afternoon April 24 at County Road B20, near the Interstate 35 exit. At about 3:18 PM, a 2012 Hyundai passenger car was westbound on B20. A 2017 Toyota Highlander driven by 51-year-old Monica Haynes of Mason City was eastbound on B20 when it crossed the center line and struck the Hyundai head-on.

The Toyota came to rest in the north ditch on its top; the Hyundai came to rest in the north ditch.

Haynes was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Mason City. She later told NIT “I am pretty battered greatful all lived.”

Both occupants of the Hyundai – 17-year-old Nathan McColloch (the driver) and 47-year-old Rosemarie Mcculloch (passenger) of Emmons, Minnesota, were both injured and also taken to Mercy Hospital by ambulance.

A report from the Iowa State Patrol says Haynes was cited as a result of the collision. She paid a $195 fine.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Iowa DOT Enforcement and Mason City fire.
