Iowa man shoots himself in the ankle during target practice

ARLINGTON, IOWA – An Iowa man missed the mark – literally and figuratively – this weekend when his pistol went off accidentally during target practice.

On April 22, 2017, at approximately 10:15 AM, a Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy was flagged down near 90th Street and W-51, just north of Arlington, Iowa. The passenger in the vehicle, Patrick Allen Lynch, age 50 of Grimes, Iowa, had sustained a gunshot wound to the ankle. Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy rendered first aid to the victim, until an ambulance arrived on scene.

Preliminary investigation showed that Patrick Lynch was target practicing with his 25-year-old son on private property north of Arlington when a 9mm pistol went off accidentally, causing a gunshot wound to Lynch’s ankle. Lynch was transported by Arlington ambulance to Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa.

The incident remains under investigation.
