Facebook murder suspect found dead after police chase

ERIE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA – An Ohio man suspected of killing at least one elderly person – and claims to have killed many more – was found dead Tuesday after a national manhunt.

The Pennsylvania State Police say Steve Stephens was spotted this morning by troopers in Erie County. After a brief pursuit, Stephens shot and killed himself.

Stevens, on Sunday, April 16, used a live streaming service on Facebook to broadcast the grisly murder of an elderly man in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Stevens used a gun to shoot and kill the man. Monday, Cleveland, Ohio police said “This is now a national search for Steve. We will leave no stone unturned.” There was a reward of up to $50,000 from ATF, FBI, Crimestoppers for information leading to the arrest of Steve Stephens.

Cleveland Police‏ planned a noon press conference to update the public on the Steve Stephens investigation.

The deceased victim from East 93rd Street in Cleveland has been identified as Robert Godwin Sr., age 74. Cleveland police confirm that Stephens “did broadcast the killing on Facebook Live and has claimed to have committed multiple other homicides which are still not verified.”

After the murder of the elderly man, the victim’s family members were on TV, saying they forgive Stephens for what they did.
