Open letter to John Skipper regarding Sunday’s column, “Mason City, it’s Time to Move on”

Dear John,

Your theme today is “move on.” How very nice. Close but no cigar; the human physiology is not wired to move on. If it were there would be no wars, no murders, no altercations, no anger… people would just “move on.” If you ever decide to stop writing, you could move seamlessly into selling aluminum siding. You could start out with windows then make your move to the holy grail… aluminum.

You gotta be joking. Seriously, you believe people are going to turn the other cheek? Look out the window… there are vile and evil people out there who will embrace you then eat your lunch. Did your editor, Mr. Mayberry “move on” when he attacked Todd Blodgett? All Todd did was invite the truth to the table in the recent Des Moines Register newspaper article by celebrated writer Reka Basu chronicling the Prestige debacle. Your own boss won’t follow your advice… why should anyone else?

This was a nightmare that ended with catastrophic consequences.

DAVID MAYBERRY VIA TWITTER
Let me answer that for you; hell no David Mayberry didn’t… he sacked Todd Blodgett in retaliation for his participation in Rekha Basu’s report. Informing Blodgett he was no longer welcome was tantamount to cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Mayberry’ actions were ill-thought, petty and child-like. They actually brought serious cause as to his qualifications to maintain the position his employers sent him here to perform. One would think the editor of a newspaper in a community where it has delivered the news for 100 years… first task would be a level playing field, free of bias, of predicament.

Every person who spends money with your paper, from a three line classified ad, to a full page buyer deserves nothing less but the truth in its content, if that is not the main mantra in the newsroom in which you work, if there isn’t a sign hanging in that newsroom that says; “The Truth Lives Here” then put the consequential warning on what you write informing the reader that it’s fiction. If it’s respect you seek, then it’s respect you should offer.

The guy who asked the mayor’s wife to murder him in his sleep is appalled. Wubba dubdub

Just read Peter’s story. Who is this skipper man. How nasty of him to brush this young mans memory away as if he didn’t exist.

In journalistic circles what could be construed to be worse; lying to those who read what you write…..or omitting mitigating facts that are withheld, facts that could change the direction of what you wrote?

@ Lehigh, Toddy boy’s Republi-tard crap he puts on the Globe was bad enough. I am going to tell you what my nephew told us how he works. They was in a thing called narcotic’s anonymous, this was 6, 7 years ago. Well Mike, he went back on that devil drug, same one Blodgett use to use. He lies to Todd said he was clean. No drugs. So he ask Todd to borrow him $300. Blodgett, he loans Mike the money. Well Mike, he went out bought some crack this is to sell, get money for his own habit. Blodgett he finds out now, he wants his money back. Our nephew, he tells TB to f*** off Todd. Ok so a couple nights later. This was around 3 am, Mike gets out his car now this was by his house. Over on 14th pl nw here in Mason. At least 4 big guys, could of been 5, they jump him. Just beat the shit out of this poor kid, he was 27 then. Mike, he spends 2 weeks up to Mercy. Banged up like you could not believe. All on count of Todd Blodgett, he says to us. So now you know. We are glad he don’t write for the Globe no more.

Excuse me, but you just said your nephew borrowed $300 from Mr. Blodgett and used it to buy drugs. Then you said when Blodgett found out he had been lied to, he asked for his money back. And your nephew told him to F.O. So now you expect us to feel some sympathy for your kin? Afraid not, sorry. If somebody lied to me, wouldn’t pay me back a loan I made them, and then they got bitchy with me about it, I would not take it either. No way. I do not know the kind of people who rough people up and I do not wish to. But I do not blame Blodgett one bit for teaching your nephew a lesson.

Mayberry makes editorial decisions and so does Marquardt. Big deal. But this conversation has deteriorated into Burger King telling McDonalds how to make and sell burgers. Develop the best product possible and let the public decide. When a competitor points an accusatory finger at others, e.g. print, internet and broadcast media it comes off as cheap, sleazy and self serving.

@ Reality, I am in no way advocating for Blodgett, but the people did decide. And they decided they liked the right wing nut case crap that he polluted the Globe with, month after month, year after year. I have followed this guy’s rantings in the Globe, and for about five years. At first, I was astounded that anyone could take Blodgett and his radical opinions seriously, But every time I looked, and I watched this closely, his columns hit the top spots. First place in most read, first place in the most blogs. And his nonsense stayed in the #1 for spot, days, and some times for a week, or more. Over the years, former Mason City residents sent in letters to the Globe’s editors (usually with strong opposition to TB’s columns) on a regular basis. What Mayberry has done, is he made a martyr out of Blodgett, whose rabid followers are upset at being denied their monthly helping of Toddy boy’s ridiculous, simple solutions to complex problems.

Quit DEFLECTING!! Mayberry is rude and stupid. Bookmeyer did what he did. PERIOD

Everything is black or white, no grays.Must be nice to live in such a simple world.

@ Reggie, are you saying it was not stupid for Mayberry to kill off Blodgett’s column? I am not a fan of Todd’s narrow minded politics.
But his right wing rant’s always snagged alot of readers, bloggers, ect., and letters to the editor, even from people who disagreed with him. Not a smart business choice.

@ Lehigh, it is not only about money, or click-thru’s, blogs, subscribers, or letters to Editors. It was wrong for the Globe to have published one single word written by Todd Blodgett. The man is a gun nut Neanderthal who owned the world’s largest racist music company. He is a drug addict and carries loaded guns on his person. He has been known to pull guns in bars (Iowa Code prohibits carrying weapons into bars) on innocent patrons. All this, as local law enforcement around here just looks the other way. Kudos to Mr. Mayberry for not putting up with the kooky Republitard who polluted the Globe’s pages for all these years.

@ Trump, it’s worse than most people would think. The Blodgett family’s connections are not the only reason their drug-addicted problem child gets off scot free around here. My brother was a state trooper for years, he says the MCPD is good with Toddy boy running these trouble makers out of town. This spoiled neo-Nazi hires ruffians, and not always local ones, to stomp people he doesn’t want living here. I guess if I was a cop, I would not want to have to deal with these kinds of people. But still, nobody has a right to behave this way, make such decisions, especially when violence is a part of it.

@ sis, not everbody has a good job like your brother, do you know. I know some that done this work for Todd. Well you know what he pays them all good he bonused him with carton’s of Kool’s. Alot of people here, looks down on people has records, well Todd, he don’t judge. Long as your nice, he treats you real fine. I do know this so who are you to hate on Todd whatnot. Them that got stomped, they needed to be and, it done us all good get them out. Some people we don’t have buglar alarms live like in Asberry or Stone creek whatnot. Not everbody can be trooper’s and retire on them nice pension’s at 40 you rich bitch.

@ Darcey, people like you scare the hell out of me. Not that I didn’t know that you and your ilk exist, because we have lived in Mason city for over 30 years. But just knowing now that you are on a first name basis with Mr. Blodgett boggles my mind. Is there any jailbird, drug dealer, thug, or ex con, in north Iowa that this entitled, crack addicted fascist doesn’t know? Like I said, people like you just scare the hell out of me. Now go crawl back under your rock and stay there.

“If you ever decide to stop writing, you could move seamlessly into selling aluminum siding. You could start out with windows then make your move to the holy grail… aluminum.” Coming from a former “tin man” that is low praise. A man that denigrates his former profession is rare AND telling. Peter hates his former life and his current one. His only joy is writing these nonsensical diatribes for his puppet master.

This was me

Kinda hard for Alex Kuhn’s family and friends to just move on, you insensitive jerk!

How cute that a former winner of the Globe Gazettes Golden Pen Award, decides to call out John Skipper with an “open letter” published on NIT. I would have thought Mr. Children would have submitted his open letter to the Globe, where Mr. Skipper would be certain to see it.

Everyone who works at the Globe reads N.I.T. everyday, it’s the first order of the day….count on it. Had I sent it to the Globe I would be limited to 300 words along with an involuntary edit that would have shocked the international meat cutters union. You are allowed to write in the Globe once every three weeks….really?

John Skipper can play the keyboard as if he were a concert violinist. When he tells you to “Move On” he is diminishing the memory of Alex Kuhn….that is his real intent….out of sight, out of mind.

Let me tell you in plain English; that’s just not going to happen, not now…not ever.

You and Matt are trying to pin all the blame on one person. A person you both loathe Unfortunately it probably is not that simple. I would like to advance a theory that NIT was as guilty as the Mayor,,if there is guilt to be spread around, because of the vitriolic rhetoric that Peter and Matt spread. It is the “us vs them” rather than” lets agree to disagree” line of debate. I think Alex was caught in the “them” camp and the NIT gang played it for all it was worth. Peter and Matt don’t play fair. They call names and poke fun at appearance. Just like middle school girls. Alex was obviously in a very vulnerable period of his life.. Divorced with 2 children and confronted with a controversial decision. A no win situation that played into the “them” part of the equation. The rest is a sad history. Of course I could be wrong……….

Thanks Reg. A very interesting and thoughtful perspective on the divisive rancor that continues to spread. A time for healing before this community implodes. Few if any are rising to the call.

You hit the nail on the head! You are exactly correct. To bad this website doesn’t focus on news and the betterment of our community. It is based on revenge and malice. I am not a fan of the Globe either but this Blog site sure isn’t any better.

Of course you are wrong – why don’t you stop riding that funky motorcycle and drive a Mercedez like a real man! The man, the adonis, the brains!! Whoooooo!

“John Skipper can play the keyboard as if he were a concert violinist.”

Let me ask you in plain English…. Wouldn’t that make him a pianist then and not a violinist?

Matt, your comment here screams volumes to your lack of credibility and character. Your website is a joke as are you. I guess the negative opinions people say about you in the surrounding area is true

You sure blinked, caved in, tucked your tail between your legs and ran when Lionel Foster called you out here on comments being made about Donte.

Revenge and Malice. Let it go man. Peace to you and yours!

I was referring to the original story F head – Diversion and corruption by your liberal/democraps was but a real life comparison to which you seem to ignore snowflake. Your mamma just told you the meterman was coming downstairs to read the meter so its time to get up.

I thought Mayberrys article was a breath of fresh air – something rare with all this liberal BS being pushed on us thanks to the fugitive obama era.

“Mayberry’s article?
It was John Skipper’s article & Children’s rebuttal, dumbass.

And WTF does this have to do with Obama?
Get over it numb-nuts, your boy Trump is in there now and it is all on him.

Thank you Peter. You have just said what most people are already thinking. The proof is in the elections. How many times does this administration have to get voted down before they wake up. The GLOB is a failing paper and this will just speed it along.

This open letter represents sentiments we have been hearing all week. Mr. Mayberry has upset us, and everyone we have spoken to, by abruptly ejecting Mr. Blodgett. We ran into Todd yesterday at a brunch with his parents. My husband and I offered to contact Mr. Mayberry’s superiors over this matter. Todd, who is very much a gentleman, thanked us, but asked us not to. He said he doesn’t want to write for the Globe as long as Mayberry is there. Everyone at our table agreed that his dismissal is just wrong, and most unfair. Alex Kuhn was forthright, intelligent, informed, and honest. So is Todd Blodgett. ‘Tis a pity this new editor at the Globe lacks the decency, class, vision, and objectivity that the job requires. One of our friends said if he was 40 years younger, he would knock the daylights out of David Mayberry. Oh, my, but this would be a joy to behold, wouldn’t it? If anyone does this, it would be goody, goody, goody.

“One of our friends said if he was 40 years younger, he would knock the daylights out of David Mayberry. Oh, my, but this would be a joy to behold, wouldn’t it? If anyone does this, it would be goody, goody, goody.”

Pathetic.
while you may disagree with Mayberry, proposing physical harm on someone is not only deplorable and disgusting but borders on the illegal.

Exactly. Toddy boy’s fans love him because they like the idea of violence being used against their opponents. This is as true for the trailer trash and racist rednecks who love Blodgett’s views as it is for his family’s rich, Republitard friends. Nearly every Blodgett column I ever read either advocated violence or made an implied threat of it.

That’s it, Blodgett not only promotes violence in print, but he suborns it in real life. We know a MC cop who can tell you all about it. He says Blodgett sicced his thugs on some drug dealers he knows of, all had to be hospitalized. None of them would press charges, or provide statements to the MCPD. A witness to one such attack recanted her statement the very next day. The scary thing is, this cop is okay with that.

Oh, my word, what in the world is wrong with you? You must either not have children, or never served in the military in a war we won, as my father had. Are a communist, perhaps? You have certainly been brainwashed with anti-American thoughts. I feel sorry for you and your kind. You see, at times, it is entirely appropriate to use force on certain people. If you were my child or grandchild, you would be told to stand in a corner. If that didn’t work, you would be out of our will.

Not that I need to assure you of anything “Golf Widow”, but I am 66 years old and served 4 years in the USMC, one year of which was in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam in 1970.
I saw & did things there that still haunt me to this day.
So don’t give me that holier-than-thou crap.
Your father served our country, not your sorry old ass.

You are a pathetic, stupid and ignorant person.
You think that it is, and in your words “it is entirely appropriate to use force on certain people.”
So you think that just because you disagree with what Mayberry did, that is justification for the use of force?
What the hell is wrong with you?

You and your ignorant & moronic ilk are what is wrong with this country.

Wow, you are one very stupid old woman.

I can see why you are a golf widow. Your husband wants to get away from you as much as possible.
He is probably really looking forward to the “till death do us part” day.

This last comment is dumb. The public is so happy to finally hear about all the abuse.
Thanks mostly to Mr. Kuhn for his honesty and willing to speak out.

The lack of respect from these people to this family and our citizens is par and more proof.

peter children, you’re acting like a bully on this topic. real childish. drop the subject and move on as we the public are tired of you beating a dead horse topic.

AGAIN it’s all true. Matt is right. Peter is right.Serious? Cripes the south is still fighting the civil war! We all know you don’t move on from heinous crimes, especially the epic events of late and for years
In this city with the engineers of deceit.

The biggest hush hush bullshit ever. They are all guilty of something for a long time now.

What a joke, everyone has spoke the truth and they just can’t take it.
Let’s called it busted.

Turn it , twist it, say to move on it won’t work , never will so you all man up admit your civil high crimes and YOU move on.

Good grief! Children, you don’t even realize you are among the nasty evil people you are talking about. Let it go. You and Marquart are so synonymous with what it wrong with this town, the fringe element that Skipper was talking about that led the recruiter in Skippers article to respond in disgust. Time to grow the hell up and shut the hell up.
So, every time Marquart gets his undies in a wad he calls you up and pushes your button to write some off the wall opinion piece? Real nice.

Mr. Children is calling this Mayberry out for being a short-sighted, petty, vengeful POS. If Skipper had any self respect he would quit that job first thing Tuesday morning, when the Globb opens it’s doors.
Mayberry was dumb to kick Blodgett off the Globb, he may be crazy but he is crazy like a fox. He baits people and they left blogs, wrote in letters to the ed., click on to his rants, ect. I hear he never charged for his column’s, the others got paid, and Todd turned in better stuff. Stupid, stupid.
