Wanted Minnesota sex predator nabbed in Mason City

MASON CITY – A wanted sex predator from Minnesota was nabbed by cops in Mason City, shacking up in a building near downtown.

Mason City police went to 525 South President Avenue – owned by Kay Marie and Robert Ingersoll of Sheffield – on the evening of Friday, February 24. There, they encountered a wanted man, 47-year-old David Lee Blanshan. He was promptly arrested without incident and taken to the Cerro Gordo county jail, where he remains held until he can be extradited to Minnesota.

Minnesota court records show that David Lee Blanshan pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct in 1992. Blanshan began registering as a predatory offender following these convictions. In 2000, Blanshan pleaded guilty to one count of failing to register as a predatory offender. In 2006, Blanshan again pleaded guilty to one count of failing to register as a predatory offender. Blanshan is required to register as a predatory offender through the year 2027.

Blanshan moved to Iowa in 2009. For reasons not apparent in the record, he received a notice from the Iowa Department of Public Safety in 2010 stating that he was no longer required to register with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry.

Blanshan returned to Minnesota by 2013, and the state charged him with failing to register as a predatory offender after his corrections officer alleged that Blanshan refused to provide her with the mailing address of his new primary residence.

Apparently, Blanshan has now returned to Iowa once again, where he may have relaxed opportunities to find residence.

Blanshan has been wanted, records show, since December 22, 2016 in Minnesota on a warrant connected to his status as a predatory offender who has violated the state’s registry requirements.

Blanshan, David Lee

They did a great job but now the rest of the judicial team has to quit letting these losers off with a slap on their wrist

Good work, MCPD.

Is Mason City a easy target for imports with a nasty history? Is it they know our judicial system is very easy to get probation, police department very weak and in a whole Mason City has a bunch of bleeding hearts..

Maybe they finally caught up with that nasty, ignorant TROLL.

WTF is all this TROLL talk all about?

A lot of these comments are fueled by our nations failing mental health system. Too often people are left unchecked when really suffering from major mental illnesses. Take the local meth use into consideration, and things start making sense. Half of these people are meth users with drug induced paranoia.

Areed, but, isn’t illegal drug use self induced causing the mental illness?
