North Iowa man sent to prison for bounding and beating abuse victim

GARNER, IOWA – A Corwith man who bound his kidnapping victim with black zip ties and repeatedly beat her has been sent to prison.

On October 11, 2016, at approximately 11:03 AM, the Hancock County Sheriffs Office responded to a report of domestic violence in the Corwith area. The report was relayed by the Kossuth County Sheriffs Office, which took the original emergency call. After investigating the matter, a Hancock County Deputy Sheriff arrested Randy Dann, 45, from Corwith, Iowa, on the charge of domestic abuse assault, an aggravated misdemeanor. The criminal complaint alleges Dann bound the victim with black zip ties and assaulted her repeatedly at their home in Corwith throughout the evening of October 10 and into the morning of October 11. The alleged victim showed injuries consistent with these allegations, and black zip ties were allegedly recovered from the Dann residence.

On October 20, 2016, the Hancock County Attorney filed a trial information containing one count of domestic abuse assault, a serious misdemeanor, and one additional count of kidnapping in the first degree, a class A felony.

At arraignment on November 1, 2016, at the Hancock County Courthouse, Dann entered a not-guilty plea.

Soon thereafter, Dann struck a plea deal.  A charge of domestic abuse was dismissed, but be pled guilty to third-degree kidnapping.  He was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison, and has already been shipped away to begin serving his sentence.
