DES MOINES – Gov. Branstad this week named State Rep. Linda Miller the Director of the Iowa Department on Aging. Miller’s appointment comes after the resignation of Donna Harvey. Miller resigned as a member of the legislature today and begins her new role as Director on Friday, Dec. 16.

“I’m honored to be chosen by the Branstad-Reynolds Administration to serve our senior citizen population in Iowa,” said Miller. “As our growing senior citizen population ages, we need to be sure that Iowans have the resources and tools available to remain in their homes safely for as long as they wish. I will serve with this principle as my highest priority and look forward to the job in front of me and the Department.”

Miller attended the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing, Drake University and the University of Iowa, where she graduated in 1968. She is a registered nurse and her husband Harold is a family practice physician. Prior to being elected to serve in the Iowa Legislature, Miller managed her family’s private practice for 17 years.

First elected in 2006, Miller served as Chair of the House Human Resources Committee for six years. She also served on the Health and Human Services Budget Subcommittee for ten years. In Oct. 2015, Miller decided not to seek re-election.

Miller is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, Iowa. She belongs to several civic and professional organizations, including Davenport One, the Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce, Bettendorf Rotary, Scott Community Foundation Board, Davenport Community School Foundation Board, the Iowa Medical Alliance, and the Scott County Medical Alliance. She has also been honored with the Chairmen’s Award for Outstanding Committee Chair from Davenport One and was Member of the Year for the State Medical Alliance.

Together, Miller and her husband have five children and five grandchildren.
