Iowa loses Big Ten Conference opening game to Purdue, 89-67

WEST LAFAYETTE, INDIANA – Iowa lost to 15th-ranked Purdue 89-67, Wednesday night in a Big Ten Conference game.

Sophomore Brady Ellingson scored 11 points, bolstered by going 3-of-3 from 3-point range. Ellingson has made his last six 3-point field goals dating back to the Iowa State game (Dec. 8).

Senior Peter Jok netted 13 points surpassing three players on Iowa’s all-time scoring list (Chad Calabria, John Johnson, and Sam Williams) to move into 26th place with 1,179 career points.

Freshman Cordell Pemsl scored 10 points, reaching double figures for the sixth time in seven starts.

Freshman Tyler Smith returned to action after missing the last seven contests due to injury and scored 12 points, reaching double figures for the fifth time in seven games played.

Iowa returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 1, when the Hawkeyes host Michigan (10-3, 0-0) in their Big Ten home opener. Tipoff is set for 1:21 p.m. (CT) on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
