Fight at Buffalo Wild Wings brings deferred judgement for former employee

MASON CITY – A former employee of the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in Mason City got a deferred judgement after he battled another employee on his last night of work and was charged with assault.

The drama unfolded Saturday night, July 9, 2016, before 9 PM at the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant, 4175 4th Street SW. Employees there were on edge as two men working in the kitchen were not having a finger-lickin’ good time. Tensions rose, and one of the men had enough of his co-worker, Antuan Dmitri Worthy, formerly of Detroit but then-living in Mason City (his social media page shows he know lives in Charles City). The fed-up cook tried to leave work and was followed out of the kitchen by Worthy, who was also a cook there.

As the fleeing cook reached the patio area of the restaurant, Worthy caught up, and the pair traded words. As the first man tried to get in his car to leave, Worthy allegedly physically attacked the man.

“Antuan did all the physical violence he forced the guy out of (his) car … started swinging … the other guy just blocked all his shots,” a witness told NIT. Patrons in the packed restaurant (most of them salivating over food, booze and the big UFC mixed-martial arts show on the TVs) gathered at the south windows, looking into the parking lot as the confrontation unfolded.

“Outside by patio … Antuan kept telling the other guy to get out (of his car) like 5 times … that’s when it started. They were good friends until last month,” the source explained. “‘Twan pretty much brought the drama to work. Arguing over stupid stuff. Kinda over a girl.”

Worthy was told to leave Wild Wings’ property and police were called. They soon caught up with him and placed him under arrest on a charge of assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. Worthy, age 24, was held briefly in the jail and soon released, pending a court date.

On December 12, Worthy entered a guilty plea to this charge. Judge Karen Salic rendered a deferred judgement. Worthy was put on probation for two years and ordered to pay $499.00 in fines and fees.

Worthy also faced a drunk driving charge from this summer. He was driving his 2000 Buick Century eastbound on Falls Park Drive from Thrush Avenue, towards the Camp at the Woods campground (and the Shell Rock River) Saturday afternoon, July 16 around 5:21 PM. As he traversed a curve, he lost control of his vehicle to the right side of the road and slid broadside into a tree on the driver’s side.

Worthy, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken by Mason City fire medics to Mercy Hospital with undisclosed injuries as a result of the crash.

However, on August 2, the Iowa State Patrol brought a charge of first-offense operating while intoxicated against Worthy in connection to this auto accident. He entered a not-guilty plea, initially, but then on December 5, he pled guilty. Once again, judge Karen Salic rendered a deferred judgement. He was put on probation for a year and ordered to pay $1,371.00 in fines and court fees. Court records do not indicate he lost his driver’s license.

He was put on a $50.00 per month payment plan in these two cases.
