Mason City woman says she’s innocent of embezzling from Lake Chevy

CLEAR LAKE – A Mason City woman accused of embezzling tens-of-thousands of dollars from Lake Chevy claims she is innocent of the felony charges against her.

Back on October 28, after an investigation, Clear Lake police charged Amy Monahan, age 42, from Mason City with Ongoing Criminal Conduct, a Class B Felony; 1st Degree Theft, a Class C Felony, and Forgery, a Class D Felony. She was jailed that day.

The charges concluded a seven month investigation into reports of misconduct by Monahan while she was employed at Lake Chevrolet, in Clear Lake, from 2013 through 2016. During the course of the investigation, it was determined Monahan misappropriated over $50,000 in funds during a two year period of her employment.

While employed as officer manager, Monahan was responsible for employee payroll, employee benefits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliation of accounts and monthly financial reports.

Monahan is alleged to have: taken money, received extra employee benefits, used business funds to pay on personal credit cards, and forged checks all without permission or knowledge of Lake Chevrolet.

On October 31, Monahan posted the required $4,000 cash bond and was released from jail. She hired local attorney Joel Yunek to represent her. On December 19, she and Yunek entered a not-guilty plea. A jury trial was scheduled for March 7. A pre-trial conference where a possible plea deal could be worked out is scheduled for February 21.
