In response to Todd Blodgett’s latest column in the Globe Gazette:
Once more the esteemed Todd Blodgett has dipped his pen into the font of reasoning of which explains our system of selection as to who will sleep in Lincoln’s bedroom for the next four years. Todd has forgotten that his well meant sermon is directed towards a population that finds going to the polls abhorrent.
Personally I find equality in the popular vote whether you live in American Samoa or on 47th Street in Manhattan. One vote for one person regardless of your address…it all adds up. The electoral college makes sense but somehow like sporting events, the team with the highest totals wins.
I, a real sage, can solve this dilemma once and for all. We change our form of government to a monarchy, proclaim Obama king with his family members inheriting the title as they do in England. No more expensive elections, no more 5 year political campaigns that make you want to vomit. We could save millions in health insurance that goes to the house and senate, plus exorbitant salaries. The population wouldn’t have to vote… they could stay on the bar stool and continue watching the game.
Makes sense to me.

I gotta ask, do any of you truly believe Trump can make good on any of his promises? Manufacturing, coal/timber jobs are not coming back. The days of making a living in these careers are done, and there is nothing Trump can do to make them come back.
Drain the swamp of politicians, only to fill it with oligarchs. At what point will the working class collectively realize it’s the corporations and capitalists with the boot on all our throats. The vitriol for the poor and lazy only gives our oppressors more ability to force us into exploitative wage slavery.
Rust belt voters had every right to feel betrayed, but I fear their righteous anger is being directed against the wrong enemy.

They have nothing to lose. They tried it Obama’s way and thing just got worse and worse. Anything had to be better than what we had. The sooner Democrats wake up and understand that the sooner they will get back in the game. Throw the far lefties out and go back to the center and they just might win.
What “things” got worse and worse? Our economy was in the tank when he took over, Osama Bin Laden was still directing Al Queda, the unemployment rate was 9-10%, we were losing young men daily in Afghanistan and Iraq, and he inherited one of the worst deficits in history. Plus, the Cubs still hadn’t won a World Series.
Unemployment is at an all time high, ISIS is a bigger threat than Al Queda, the deficit has tripled, racial separation is at an all time high, people have NO accountability, its OK for men to piss in the ladies room, but all those pesky facts are only true if you use a reputable, non-bias news source.

If we would have had voter ID laws and proper voting rules in place, I believe the popular vote would coincide with the electoral vote.

If you take away the votes of the deceased and the votes of illegal immigrants, then the majority did vote for Trump. The margin of the popular vote is smaller than the estimated number of illegal votes cast.
