The woman smashed a window with a fire extinguisher in her vehicle. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the good Samaritan risked his life and walked out on to the very thin ice to help pull the woman from her rapidly sinking car. It was mentioned that the head rest prongs in a vehicle are designed to be used as a window breaker.
