MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo GOP central committee met at the Pizza Ranch in Mason City Monday and elected its 2017 officers.
Barbara Hovland will continue as Chairwoman.
Other appointed officers include: Chadd Blanchard, Co-chair; Deborah Potthoff, Secretary; Lon Rosenthal, Treasurer.
“I’m looking forward to continue working to turn Cerro Gordo county Red and serving Republicans,” Mrs. Hovland stated. “It’s great to get the younger generation involved in local politics. Chadd is a bright young man who will help strengthen the young voter base.”
Central committee meetings for 2017 will be held quarterly at the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse.
Iowa is on its way from being more of a traditional “blue” state to later a “purple state” and finally, may now actually be a “red” state. Voter registration numbers from this past November election show record high Republican ranks. Democrats had 634,744 register to their side while Republicans had 671,713 (a record high). Still, “No Party” had 717,794, leaving room for growth. The choosing “Other” had 11,811 in its ranks, for a total of 2,036,062 registered voters.
