LAKE MILLS – A Lake Mills man on the state’s sex offender registry is behind bars awaiting trial for alleged new and more aggressive violent sex acts.
Leslie Myers, age 40 of Lake Mills was convicted this summer of sexual exploitation of a minor after police seized his computer from his home and discovered child porn. He was given a deferred judgment by judge Karen Salic, which included 2 years of probation, $1,451.25 in fines and court fees, and register on the sex offender list.
Then, in August of this year, Lake Mills police brought a litany of charges against Meyers involving multiple count of second and third-degree sex abuse, including an alleged crime against a minor who may have been as young as nine with the abuse continuing for years.
Meyers remains in the Kossuth county jail at this time, awaiting a jury trial on January 11, 2017, after an earlier not-guilty plea.
Deferred sentences just do not work and neither does the sex registry.
