DES MOINES – An Iowa woman continues to go without food in a protest over the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline and staged a protest at the state capitol Thanksgiving Day while governor Tery Branstad feasted inside Terrace Hill.

On Thanksgiving Day, Jessica Reznicek of Des Moines and other members (they call themselves “Water Protectors”) of the protest group Mississippi Stand and the State of Iowa began the morning with a water ceremony at the Des Moines River to “honor and give thanks to all life-giving water”. From there, after 10 AM, they mobilized to Terrace Hill, where Governor Terry Branstad was celebrating Thanksgiving.

Reznicek cautioned “that there will be no reason to feast when this pipeline breaks and pollutes all of our waters.”

Reznicek and Mississippi Stand mobilized to Terrace Hill to call the Governor to action on a day that was created “to celebrate the murderings of numerous Native Americans.”

“We will go to Terrace Hill to fast, to pray, and to remember that this holiday celebrates the murders of Native Americans,” Reznicek explained. “We must learn our history as a country, so that we do not continue to repeat it, as we are continuing to up in North Dakota.”

Today, Reznicek continues her fifth day of the Hunger Strike in front of the Iowa Utilities Board where she started an open ended, liquid only fast, in response to “the IUB’s inaction to revoke the permits to Dakota Access, LLC for numerous violations across the State.”

According to its social media page, Mississippi Stand was an encampment started in Lee County, Iowa the 30th of August by Reznicek in opposition to the drilling underneath the Mississippi River in Iowa. The encampment started with this one woman from Dallas County and has grown into a mobile caravan of resistance against the Dakota Access Pipeline that runs across the state of Iowa.

Reznicek continues to be in high spirits, the age says, thanks the many locals who have visited her at the IUB to give support, and encourages others to do the same. Mississippi Stand asks for others to join them in holding the IUB accountable. A call to action for all to join these water protectors in solidarity and support today and the days to follow until the law is upheld and construction stops.

All you have to do is offer the NA more money. Write them a check and their Native American protest will be over before the ink is dry. They just got nothing better to do and still think America owes them.

Who is using her EBT card?

I still liked my comment about Matt marrying this woman. They do resemble each other quite a bit. A long lost cousin?

The earth absorbs a lot of mankind’s blunders. Because of the forgiving nature of the earth towards man’s pollution, dumbasses who ridicule those who seek to protect the environment will continue on grilling their bacon wrapped brats. She is fighting a losing battle though, but oh well. She’ll feel good for awhile as fasting removes toxins and sharpens clarity of the senses.

As far as her being a “poseur” for using petroleum products. That’s a serpentine way to describe the situation. The energy and transportation grids are behemoth infrastructure policy decisions made at the highest levels of our society, and made long ago by rich, capitalizing men, and their accompanying politicians. You can’t blame her because the internal combustion engine is rolling down the road and not bicycles or electric cars, or that the power plant down the street burns coal or natural gas instead of solar and wind exclusively. I’d think Jesus returned if one day I went outside and saw no internal combustion oil and gas burning engines.

wish u would go on a breathing strike. We can all feel better then. Yes.

I am so glad if I annoyed you Peter. You do know the device you’re posting from isn’t really solar OR wind powered, don’t you?

Depends how many wind turbines are powering this particular sector, as opposed to being shipped down to Texas or Florida. Produced electricity in Iowa should STAY in Iowa. But capitalists have it all worked out don’t they? Keep them freighters sailing. Keep them trains a chugging. Keep them tractor trailers rolling. OILOILOILOILOILOILOILOILOILOILOILOILOILOILOILOIL.

Get a job and a grasp on reality you people pick “causes” that you have no chance of winning! Be a productive member of society, we are tired of you crybaby, unless you live a 100% petroleum free life you are just a poser

Who is she hurting with this fast? Certainly not me and not the people building the pipeline. Only her.

No one cares lady.

You cared enough to read the article.

I cared enough to read it too. I think it would be fun to grill some bacon-wrapped brats upwind of her. Ha ha ha
