Poll says 71% of Americans think 2016 election more important than most

vote_herePRINCETON, N.J. – Seven in 10 U.S. voters say the outcome of this year’s presidential election matters more to them than it did in prior election years.

This finding from Gallup is in line with what they recorded at this stage of the past three presidential campaigns. However, before 2004, voters were far less likely to believe presidential elections meant that much.

Seven in 10 U.S. registered voters believe the current presidential election matters more than prior elections, similar to their views in 2004, 2008 and 2012; all had percentages of 70% or higher.

Republicans lead Democrats in this belief, 80% to 69%. The Party out of the White House typically thinks election matters more.
