MASON CITY – A Mason City man was involved in an altercation in a North End alley and then was found dead later in his home.

NIT has pieced together some details in connection to the death of 43-year-old James Allen Miller, who was found deceased on October 29. Apparently, he was found by family that day in his residence at the 900 block of North Federal Avenue.  Fire medics in white haz-mat suits (tyvek suits with self-contained breathing apparatus) were there removing the body, alleged witnesses said. He may have possibly been deceased for some time before the body was discovered.

NIT has learned that on the morning of October 29, Miller was found inside his residence located in 900 block of North Federal by relatives, who reported to police then that he had “been in ill health for a while”. Police say there were no obvious signs of foul play.

However, more information gathered shows that Miller had been involved in an altercation and/or fight not too long before his death, right outside his home.

On October 16, 2016, at 8:56 PM, a male was reported lying face down in the alley of the 900 block of North Federal. Officers arrived and found a subject lying on the ground, apparently heavily intoxicated. According to police, a witness reported this subject had stumbled down the alley and tried to punch another male subject that was talking to the witness in the alley.

Police tell NIT that “there was a brief physical altercation and then the male stumbled away and fell down in the alley.”

A different source told NIT that “deceased was in a fight in the alley behind his home last week and was knocked out.”

Fire Medics were called to the scene to assess the individual. The possibly injured person, James Allen Miller, refused to be treated or go to the hospital. Miller was then arrested for public intox and disorderly conduct. Police say he was also wanted for violation parole reference habitual offender and possession of a controlled substance.

Miller was jailed and soon released. He eventually ended up in his home, presumably where he passed away.

NIT is informed a medical examiner was contacted by authorities and an autopsy is planned to determine Miller’s cause of death.

dead or alive, clean this town up.

You realize he is someone’s son, nephew, grandson right? No matter what issues he may or may not have had they still love him and are grieving the loss of his life. It’s sad there seems to be a huge lack of common decency or empathy in the world.

Unfortunately, James had a long history of drug and alcohol abuse and spent a susbstantial amount of time in and out of correctional facilities. He was a good person as long as he was sober, but he would not stay sober. May be find peace in his afterlife and be freed of his demons.

bunch of 2nd guessers that weren’t there

Why didn’t the police arrest him for his parole violation and then get him medical attention? That would have been one way to do the right thing for a human being.

Police should have taken him to hospital – if he had a concussion he would have not the ability to make a sound judgement as to his need for medical attention of not – then throw him in a cell ? Great job police dept.

They (Police or fire) can not force you to go to the hospital, unless you are suicidal or unconscious.

They can not force him to go to the hospital A lot of people refuse beca and they don’t have the money to pay.use they don’t have insurance, or in the case of Obamacare the deductible is not paid

Pave more parking lots !
