Mason City woman accused of embezzling from Clear Lake auto dealership

CLEAR LAKE – A Mason City woman is in jail after being arrested on three felonies for allegedly embezzling from a Clear Lake auto dealership where she was employed.

On October 28, 2016, Amy Monahan, age 42, from Mason City, was charged with:

Ongoing Criminal Conduct, a Class B Felony
1st Degree Theft, a Class C Felony, and;
Forgery, a Class D Felony

The charges conclude a seven month investigation into reports of misconduct by Monahan while she was employed at Lake Chevrolet, in Clear Lake, from 2013 through 2016. During the course of the investigation, it was determined Monahan misappropriated over $50,000 in funds during a two year period of her employment.

While employed as officer manager, Monahan was responsible for employee payroll, employee benefits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliation of accounts and monthly financial reports.

Monahan is alleged to have: taken money, received extra employee benefits, used business funds to pay on personal credit cards, and forged checks all without permission or knowledge of Lake Chevrolet.

Monahan remains jailed Friday night on $40,000 cash or surety bond.
