CLEAR LAKE – A Mason City woman is in jail after being arrested on three felonies for allegedly embezzling from a Clear Lake auto dealership where she was employed.
On October 28, 2016, Amy Monahan, age 42, from Mason City, was charged with:
Ongoing Criminal Conduct, a Class B Felony
1st Degree Theft, a Class C Felony, and;
Forgery, a Class D Felony
The charges conclude a seven month investigation into reports of misconduct by Monahan while she was employed at Lake Chevrolet, in Clear Lake, from 2013 through 2016. During the course of the investigation, it was determined Monahan misappropriated over $50,000 in funds during a two year period of her employment.
While employed as officer manager, Monahan was responsible for employee payroll, employee benefits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliation of accounts and monthly financial reports.
Monahan is alleged to have: taken money, received extra employee benefits, used business funds to pay on personal credit cards, and forged checks all without permission or knowledge of Lake Chevrolet.
Monahan remains jailed Friday night on $40,000 cash or surety bond.

You are her family, you should know. Her ex-friends she has screwed over, caused problems for and those she has stole from know all about her past endeavors. As well as the fact she can’t pass a simple background screening for certain positions. There are reasons for this. It’s called she has a past with this type of behavior.
That doesn’t mean she hasn’t been lucky enough in the past to not have charges files against her.
I think she’s been very lucky thus far.

I am not part of her family. So I don’t know who you are referring that too. You say all these things anonymously. Again, she has not done wrong by me. She will pay for her crime, it still shouldn’t give people the right to trash her and not have the decency to do it to her privately. If you think I’m defending stealing, you miss the point. Everyone of us has done something we are not proud of; maybe it was illegal, maybe it wasn’t, maybe we got caught, maybe not. The point is we should not take pleasure in others pain, to do so only continues the cycle of hate and shame.

Maybe you have never on the other end of Amy and her husband which by the way his name is Troy, talking,judging, spreading rumors, and encouraging others to do the same about people who just made mistakes that by the way were not illegal. They were nasty with their mouths and words. They gave no empathy. But her friends and family are asking others to do what they did not. You get what you give. Apparently they have been rude and awful to many. Just look at all the comments. Appears she has hurt many.
You are right I haven’t been on the receiving side of any of these things. I know Troy and figured people may get us confused but I’m a totally different guy. I just feel bad for her kids. They will feel bad enough. People, especially kids are cruel. They didn’t ask for this negative attention that they may be feeling. Like they say, two wrongs don’t make a right. If you are one of the ones they wronged then you can understand why doing it to them is wrong.
I think when the people she has wronged are asked to stand in Grace for her that is very hard as I personally know a family they trashed. . So I guess what you are asking is probably the right thing to do, but many are unable as Amy and Troy didn’t opt to do the right thing for others, they slammed on social media and felt good about it.
No a child shouldn’t have to deal with the crap their parents say and do. But she should have thought of those consequences while continuing an ongoing criminal activity. maybe stealing was her addiction and like all addicts she didn’t care about the consequences for others.
I know Amy. If she did do this, I’m sure she’s wishing she didn’t. But going on here bad mouthing her isn’t the right thing to do. Everyone makes mistakes, maybe not this big of one, but no one is perfect. Please remember her family has a lot to deal with already they don’t need all of these other negative comments in addition to.

I have only known Amy for a few years. Do I know everything about her, no. But I’ve never seen any of the issues you are claiming. Maybe you have had different experiences with her. But again, it doesn’t change the fact that her family doesn’t need to see all these other things people are writing. If people had these issues they could and should of addressed these issues with her personally, not in a public forum. I’m sure all these people casting blame have things in their lives they wouldn’t want others commenting about for their children and family to see.
The only reason she’s wishing she didnt do this is because she got caught. No remorse befote being arrested I’m sure.
That’s like for anything anyone has done. Maybe she left there because she knew she did wrong. I honestly dont know. Was she wrong to do what she did. Absolutely. But if you can honestly say you have lived your life and not made a mistake that you regret then you’re a better person than most.

Sure everyone has done wrong in their lives. But there are degrees and what’s she’s accused of isn’t a small matter. It just exacerbates the lack of remorse shown until locked up. I agree with someone else though…she’ll plead to a lesser crime and get a slap on the wrist. They do it for meth dealers and murders so why not her. But at least prospective employers will know the real her.
I predict in 60 days she will have a change of plea hearing, plead guilty to a lesser charge, request a deferred judgement and get it. Then all of her friends will say she had a bad lawyer telling her to plead guilty.
Warrants aren’t issued without enough evidence linking an individual to a crime. No one is arrested on a hunch. The ones that are saying no way, will have to learn to come to terms.

By the looks of the charges, 3 different class felonies there must have been quite a bit of EVIDENCE against her. AND the amount of time that went into an investigation. I don’t think it’s a question of “IF”.

Good point Mary and no I am not a co-conspirator just a person that has the ability to have empathy for friends and family, even if they do wrong, I will still be there for them.
And even though this was a mistake Amy still made the choice to do wrong, if in fact she did do this.
I am definitely not defending her actions just saying that true friends and family try and help support and be there for the people they care about even when they do wrong. If that makes me a bad person then I guess I’m guilty of that.

What a shame she is to the community. I know Lake Chevrelot sponsers alot around town. Not only has this woman taken from a family business, but I’m know in situations like these the rest of employees suffer and in this case a community for places they sponser such as a child’s softball team.

If the below comment is true and Amy made $13/hr, and is accused of stealing 50 K over 3 years she, for that 3 year period was still barely over making enough to qualify for aid in Iowa (food stamps, etc.) Why would she risk all for so little, contrary to the remarks belo, she certainly couldn’t have been loving high on the hog; furthermore it reflects poorly on the individuals making such awful comment below, much more so than Amy’s charges (innocent until proven guilty). Remember, she is no different than you are, she has a family, a life and is a fellow human being. Would you want to be tried and convicted this way?
