North End improvement projects set to begin today in Mason City

MASON CITY – Some much-needed improvements are about to happen in Mason City’s North End.

City hall tells NIT Monday that three improvement projects slated to be done this year will commence construction today.

The city’s Engineering Department says that “the contractor is beginning work today, Monday, October 24, 2016 as he continues to finish up work on a couple of other projects. I expect this project to be completed in the next 4-6 weeks given favorable working conditions.”

The primary contractor and contract holder with the City of Mason City is Mid Continent Contracting from Mason City. Their subcontractors are KW Electric from Cedar Falls and North Iowa Sand and Gravel from Mason City. KW Electric will be performing the electrical and lighting elements and North Iowa Sand and Gravel will be doing the HMA parking lot paving portion of the project.

The work to be completed with the North-End Improvements project includes the following elements:

  1. Reconstruction of the city rocked parking lot located in the SW quadrant of the intersection of 14th Street NW and Federal Avenue
    • Includes grading and paving of the parking lot
    • Includes storm sewer intake and storm sewer piping to the city main
    • New parking lot lighting
    • Parking lot striping
    • Signage
  2. Rehabilitation of the city parking lot located behind 1327 North Federal Avenue
    • Includes PCC pavement replacement
    • Upgrades to the existing parking lot lighting system
    • Parking lot striping
    • Signage
  3. Repair of numerous sidewalks located along the North Federal Avenue corridor between 13th and 16th Street

Aw look. The Mason City reject that was forced to leave town now thinks he is a troll and can attack for no reason. What a chicken shit posting under a false name. Afraid to post under the real name because everyone knows what he is.

Says “anonymous”

You should talk “NADA”. Do you even know what that means? It means “Nothing” and that is just what you are.

4. Evict LVS and drag his worthless old ass to the looney bin

I would really like that if you would try, pussy.

They should build a beautiful wall, all along Federal. So out of towners cant see all the trash, and all the dirtbags are contained. Boom, win-win.

How about finishing the half done bike paths . It’s been months since any work has been done. Some are dangerous

Water pools on them when it rains. Poor engineering.

Or poor surfacing material.

The grade A crew at Heartland had to do the prep work for some sections two or three times before it was good enough to pass inspection. What a waste time, and probably the city’s money.

The waste of time and money would have been on Heartland then, not the city. Until the project is approved, I wouldn’t think the city would be on the hook for anything. If the city approves the project and pays for it, then I think they are the ones who would be at fault.

With all these improvements, plus our really cool downtown with microbreweries, new apartments, coffee houses, and the influx of hipsters, we are destined to be the next Seattle!

Hillary clintons dream – Nice parking lots for Fema Trailers.

Why? Does your crystal bill indicate a devastating tornado, or earthquake perhaps in our future?

Can you say band aid? /kotex / diversion to fixing the REAL problem.

Hey! Us druggies need a nice place to do business – please cut the wattage on the bulbs if you would. Hey ! Just heard we are winning the war in Afghanistan! Poppy (heroin) production is up 43%. I told you Obananna/Clinton would get the job done.

Whi cares about those 2 parking lots. The one you wouldnt even know its there if you didnt live in the north end. What a waste. How about fixing federal and 15th st NW. You guys want some people fix there property up or tare it down. But you guys dont do your part like fixing the roads. This city is a joke.

As long as we’re discussing improvements, how about a traffic light at North Carolina and 12th Street NE? A bad and dangerous intersection.

Why doesn’t the city just sell the properties to the adjacent property owners? You can sell it cheap enough, take it off the books, create a little tax revenue and save the money being spent on this project.

In my view it is a waste of $, without new businesses why does it matter, the focus needs to be establishing quality small businesses.

Maybe they envision Park and Ride lots for all the commuters streaming in from Manly clogging our boomtown streets. Park and get on the bus would fix that.

This will bring em into town, what a major improvement! This city owns some pretty nice property right there, Maybe we should think about laying an Ice arena above that place.

Give some subsidies to open new Payday loan businesses, liquor stores and smoke shops. And we can always use some more used car lots. That’s economic development right there!

Lipstick on a pig! But I guess you gotta start somewhere.
