MASON CITY – Some much-needed improvements are about to happen in Mason City’s North End.
City hall tells NIT Monday that three improvement projects slated to be done this year will commence construction today.
The city’s Engineering Department says that “the contractor is beginning work today, Monday, October 24, 2016 as he continues to finish up work on a couple of other projects. I expect this project to be completed in the next 4-6 weeks given favorable working conditions.”
The primary contractor and contract holder with the City of Mason City is Mid Continent Contracting from Mason City. Their subcontractors are KW Electric from Cedar Falls and North Iowa Sand and Gravel from Mason City. KW Electric will be performing the electrical and lighting elements and North Iowa Sand and Gravel will be doing the HMA parking lot paving portion of the project.
The work to be completed with the North-End Improvements project includes the following elements:
- Reconstruction of the city rocked parking lot located in the SW quadrant of the intersection of 14th Street NW and Federal Avenue
- Includes grading and paving of the parking lot
- Includes storm sewer intake and storm sewer piping to the city main
- New parking lot lighting
- Parking lot striping
- Signage
- Rehabilitation of the city parking lot located behind 1327 North Federal Avenue
- Includes PCC pavement replacement
- Upgrades to the existing parking lot lighting system
- Parking lot striping
- Signage
- Repair of numerous sidewalks located along the North Federal Avenue corridor between 13th and 16th Street
